  1. Happy Birthday G6Eman!

  2. Ok, so the free air subs I've seen are rubbish - I think partly because of the design of the parcel shelf and also because (lets face it) subs are primarily designed to run in an enclosure. As for speakers, I checked out the Boston Acoustic website and they no longer ship to australia - you need to buy from an authorised dealer here. Hello markup. Luckily I have a mate in the US so I'll probably end up getting speakers shipped to his place and he can send them on to me. This might end up being a long process...
  3. I'll definately be getting quality splits for the front, IMO they are the cornerstone of good sound. In the past I've simply had boston acoustic splits in the front and a sub in the boot and it was one of the best sounding systems I've had. I'm heading out today to check out some free air and slimline boxed subs so I can have a listen and see which ones (if any) are any good.
  4. At 15,000kms I got stung $360 at a ford dealership - for an oil and filter change. Absoulute joke. They even charged me $20 for rotating the tyres and didn't even do it. What I don't understand is that I've been charged around the same amount for a major service in the past. How can they justify the cost??? Ford - Love the cars, hate the workshops
  5. I wasn't planning on using the factory sub, it's only 8" and in my experience free air subs aint that great. I've got a kicker 12" sub + box from my old system but it takes up so much space that I'm not keen on using it. I'm looking into slimline subs but I've had mixed reviews. I'm after a nice clean sound, not so much a real doof system, but I listen to a wide range of music so I want something that can cope across all genres.
  6. Hi everyone, I know the FG premium sound has copped alot of flak (and for damn good reason) and I'm at the point where I just want to rip it all out and start fresh. The last stereo install I did was in my old AU3 XR8 so it's been a while for me and I'm not really familiar with all of the new products on the market ie. slimline subs etc... I want to run the stereo off the factory icc but add some new splits, replace those povvo rear door speakers and get rid of that rubbish mid-range (I think they marketed it as a "subwoofer") and of course add a couple of amps. I am looking at a set of MB Quart 40watt RMS splits, 40watt RMS 2ways for the rear doors and maybe a slimline sub for the boot. Has anyone run a setup similar to this in an FG? Would I be needing any special wiring kits/adaptors to fit this up to the icc? Are slimline subs any good? I don't want to take up too much boot space... Cheers everyone
  7. Why do people modify the looks of their cars? Because they want to. They want to make THEIR vehicle more of appealing to THEM. I personally would feel as much need to make cosmetic changes to any $500,000 car as I would to a $50,000 Ford, simply because I want my car do be different. Change your rims, colour code, lower, tint, add or remove decals, flare your guards to make it look like a bombadore if it makes YOU happy! Everyone is going to have their own tastes, there is no right or wrong - if you don't like it, you don't need to apply the same changes to your own vehicle... One of the great things about these forums is it allows people to share ideas, the what why and how of their own personal touches. And I applaud anyone who is willing to post pictures and subject them to others appreciation or critisism. To these people - Don't worry about what anyone else says, as cjl put it, as long as it puts a smile on YOUR face.
  8. Agreed. I was a little unsure about how the colour coding would look, but know I've seen a couple of pictures it's definately on my to-do list. Top job cjl
  9. Ok... Finally my starter kit arrived, and luckily it came with the wiring harness - no cutting wires required. It took me about 3 minutes to do and is as simple as plug and play. Gonadman2 - To disable the button, all you have to do is remove the steering column cover under your steering wheel. There are 3 phillips head screws holding it in, and it will unclip from the top section with a gentle pull. If you stick your head underneath you will see where the wiring harness connects to the back of the ignition barrel - its a male white connector - just unplug it. Also, there is another white connection there - male into female, both white - unplug them as well. Take THAT male connector and plug it into your ignition barrel and you're all done, just whack your column cover back in. It's up to you if you want to remove the whole start button setup or leave it in case you want to hook it up again later. Hope that helps
  10. Hey, that would be awesome if you could send me the link! I'm not sure if it comes with a wiring harness - I probably should have got him to expand on "wiring included" lol. Thought I'd google a wiring diagram but can't seem to find one... I'm sure it would be pretty straight forward but I'd like to at least have some sort of reference point in case I hit a wall as the ignition is one thing I don't want to screw up!
  11. Hi everyone I'm waiting on my FG FPV starter button to arrive, I've had the tissue box fascia painted piano black to match my G6ET's interior. I believe it comes with a wiring harness although I haven't laid eyes on it yet - but I'm wondering if anyone else has installed one of these in a non-FPV FG? Any advice or pointers? Cheers
