For $18 from the RTA you can check the history of a vehicle. Tells you when it was 1st registered, how many owners its had, whether private or business & the period each owner had it for. Also tells you if its ever been written off before.......money well spent I reckon, as it helped me decide on getting the XR6T I mentioned earlier

Problem is car is 2.5hrs from where I live....my mechanic friend only did a visual(probably what NRMA/RACV do) on the day. Being stock, is there anything that commonly fails/ needs looking into at around 80K?

Thanks Dillz, that helps. Ok, here's the deal with the one I saw/interested in....BA2 05 auto with prem sound & 18in xr8? wheels, done 82K. All sounds good but no service history or even the owners manual, & that kinda bothers me. I did take a couple of m8's with me, one who is a mechanic & the other a panel beater. Small tap on front bumper at some stage, otherwise straight, but as for the mechanics, all looks ok, but he never really did much(visual inspection).......which leads me into my next question. Are the vehicle inspections carried out by the likes of NRMA(NSW) thorough(check compression, g/box, turbo, etc)? Is that what you mean by get it checked out? I would love to get one with low km's & fully service history, but most BA's on the market in NSW are nearing 100K+ :(

Ok, I'd like to limit it to $15K which I know won't get you a BF but I plan on keeping it for a few years so the extra few grand would be irrelevant longterm. If I test drive a stock BF XR6T(auto) would I likely to be as disapointed in the 0-60km acceleration as I was in the BA? Or is the ZF gearbox so much better than that of the BA that you can notice it ?

Hi Dillz, Thanks for the prompt reply. Was your answer in reference to the difference between a BA & BA2? So it's not worth paying extra for a BA2? I read the BF auto(ZF 6sp) is a great box, is it worth paying extra to get one of these(performance wise) even if little or no mods will be done to the engine, or a good BA 4sp box will do in my case?

Hi all, I'm in the market for a XR6T as well, & only drove one for the 1st time(BA auto) on the w/e, & although I couldnt put it through its paces(only got to 60-70km), I was kinda disapointed in the acceleration. At about 60km you could here the Turbo whistle(lol..I'm a noob on T's) kicking in.Is this normal as: 1)They are heavy 2)Its an auto 3)They run low boost(4psi is standard?) I don't want to mod it as I want it to last past 100KM(other than a exhaust....if that helps??), but what I really wanted to know is the differnece between a BA & BA mark 2? From my reserach, other than mark 2 coming out with a 6sp box on a manual, there is no difference on an auto, that sound about right?
