Xr8 Or Xr6t

Now this is going to be a point for anyone who now owns a XR6T. I have one and always liked the V8.

I bought the XR6T because it was available and I didn't particularly like that bump on the bonnet of the XR8. I read all the reports and gut feeling told me to go get one. I bought my XR6T without even seeing the car let alone test driving one.

My quess at the time was that the XR8 would be about $6000 more than the XR6T. I looked at the option lists on the XR6T and picked all the extras. If I was to wait for the XR8 I would have had to give up some of the options and I could not work out which of the nice goodies I could do without.

The initial reports for the XR8 is good. A bit hevier, better manual gearbox, similar performance figures, beautifully sounding grunt. I now think hmmmm that would have been nice.

Am I sorry I made my decision on the XR6T? NO WAY. I love my car and it drives like its on rails, excellent power band and a good looker. It uses fuel like its got a deal with Shell to maximize its profits but the XR8 would be the same.

Those of you who do not have one yet I believe you will not gain much by having a V8 under your bonnet, nice as it sounds. Both are powerful and unique Australian designed and build legends.

IMO the XR8 is not worth $6,000 more than the XR6T.

You made the right choice!

Agree ...

... and raoulc, after you settle down into your normal driving pattern (you're probably having a bit of fun with that turbo power at the moment), you will get better economy from the XR6T than the XR8 will ever get.

Having driven 8's for years I don't think I would go back. This may be just as quick as the 8 but way more fun. You FEEL the power when the turbo comes on song....

Talk about "BIAS"..?? ( Well I spose it IS the xr6TURBO site, lol)... Hey what are we doing here?........Writing off the great aussie V8 muscle car?...Sure the turbo IS an absolutely fantastic bit of machinery! ( & I own 1) BUT...lets NOT forget what REALLY put oz Ford on the map?...The V8 Is a "purists" car... The Turbo, is the "new kid on the block"....

Well, that was certainly enlightenting, wasn't it?

Enlightening??..Lol Lol... Mr Moffat, YOU of ALL people should be the guardian & protector of the great icon that we all worship? ( V8).....

Anyhow guys....... HEAPS of room for both!!.... And really , aren't we the lucky ones compared to GM, with a twenty yr old pushrod V6 & an oil burning 1960's based 350 chev for their choices?

reading what someone wrote about the Xr8 and the XR6T after driving them I get the feeling the two cars are aimed at different people. I get the impression the XR6T is new and 'young' .. likely to be a cult car because of it's popularity.. the XR8 is aimed at executives with more dough or people who want to tow as well as have some straight line grunt. I reckon the XR8 has heaps more 'street cred' than the XR6T by virtue on the bonnet bulge (like it or not) .. maybe Ford should have done something other than badging to differentiate the XR6T from the NA XR6.

I feel that either is as good as the other .. just arrived there in a different manner.

The boy racer in me says get a XR6T ... the V8 man in me obviously says get an XR8... I will most likely go the V8 in the end.

I dont' think there is anything to split the two in terms of performance. I currently drive a SS and love the V8 performance. But personally I am going with the xr6t because I think it represents better value for money.
