Possible auto glitch

Hey guys, I have a little problem that someone here may know how to fix.

I have a BA XR6 turbo, with a modified auto. The auto is rock solid and coping well with 280rwkw's.

Tonight at Calder I tried a new way of driving down the 1/4 mile, this resulted in my quickest time aswell as discovering a slight problem. I launch in performance mode and let the car self shift 1-2, I then shift manually 2-3 at about 5600-5700rpm. So far its all good. Out of 5 runs tonight all except one had the following problem, after being in 3rd for a little while the car would then change into 4th at about 5000rpm (not sure on exact rpm). This has a real bad effect on my times.

I was hoping someone might have some idea why this is happening and ways to rectify it. Its possible that its a cpu glitch or something. As it only happens over 160kmph its a bit hard to show the service department or other people. I'll be asking my service manager, Amberly auto and also my transmission place (Kewish Automotive), what they think at the first oportunity. I was hoping you guys might have ideas in the mean time.

Any ideas would be great.

I was told by my dealer when he took me through the car, that the auto will change into 4th from 3rd in manual mode when nearing redline, this is to stop the motor/driveline whatever from turning high rpm for prolonged periods.

I have done a few speed tests on the lonely roads between toowoomba and warwick and mine changes from 3rd to 4th automatically when in manual mode at about 190-210 kmh.

mine doesnt do that at all. ive had the valvebody changed but when I raced the other night I changed into 4th at 5000rpm cause it gave me better mph I feel you have to change at that rev from 3rd to 4th...but in saying that it should not change by itself..

I'm sure mine does. Maybe its only when its in performane drive mode and I have it all wrong, but I am sure it has done it.

I have been to the drags lots of times and tried many different approaches to changing gears. This is the first time that the car has ever changed gears itself when in manual mode. I know that after you change gears manually it will stay in the gear you leave it in until you stop then it will revert back to first. If you manually put the car in to 1st then launch it will stay in 1st and bounce of the limiter until you change gears.

After giving it some more thought I believe that it must be some sort of error in the auto cpu or possibly the Ford cpu. I'll talk to the auto people either tomorrow or Monday and the same with Amberley and Ford.

This is the first time I have used this method and I believe that it suits my car best. I just hope I can get this little bug sorted. If I cant I'm going to have to learn to shift manually 1-2 aswell and that's a b**ch of a change it happens so quickly.

Cro, I think there is summing wrong with your slusher then, cos it is supposed to overide the manual selection if there is a chance of damaging either tranny or engine. I have tested the opposite myself and selected 3rd gear and slowed right down appraoching a corner, and it automatically selected 2nd so as not to put too much stress on the tranny doing a slow corner in 3rd. That was in the V8 though so I'm not sure if they are exactly the same as the 6's?

Geea you have had a hell of a lot of work done to your box, I would be going back to them and asking some questions...
