I had a BF Turbo go past me today and it had a really nice crackle as it slowed down. What was done to the exhaust to achieve the crackle?

Rice bubbles in the cat convertor.

If you listened closely you'd hear a bit of a pop with the crackle, and a bit more when he snapped 2nd gear.
