OK.

This all sounds good. What sort of $$ are you talking about?

will the Prop shaft need to be modified?

where is the speed sensor on the xr6T

and how will a new box affect the Speed limiter?

Sixfan, I dont have the answers to all of your questions as we have planned to build a one off test vehicle for evaluation and to suit my new big grunter engine.

1) price, currently dont know though one is going in my xr6t regardless of the cost.

2) Most likely as we need to cope with over 1000Nm of torque.

3) speed sensors, at the wheels.

40 Not sore yet though I am about to find out.

Sorry I dont have all of the answers now as its impossible to know before the work is completed.

Hey,

thanks for your prompt reply, I'm interested.

I'll leave the technical arguments up to those who know more than me, but I'm watching with keen interest. NT would be a good place to test such a box...Need a car up here??

You guys are very lucky, the NT would be about the best test enviroment on the planet, and just where we will conduct final testing on some new xr6t components later this year. Maybe we can up when then, its sure to be a hoot.

Supra weight is 1490 - 1590kg depending on year and specs.

Specs on the V160/161 at:

http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/getrag/sp...pecs/index.html

I have also attached a spreadsheet that you can play with (found at www.mkiv.com).  Allows you to play with tyre and diff size and calcs the expected engine rpm in each gear at certain mph.

The lightest I have ever seen a supra is around the 1,300kg mark.

Has anyone considered the toyota R154 or W58 box??

Good info, where did you get the weights from? I have often heard from the US guys that the US spec car weighs approx 4000 pounds. Maybe that's wrong, I will need to check.

Peter, I've just been doing some checking on Supra weights mate - I have found an earlier model (5-speed) going at 1430kg and the latest (I presume) model is listed at 1550kg.

I'd be interested where you sourced your information as you seem to be pretty certain of what you have stated.

BTW I am now officially UNSURPRISED !!

Ooops ... it seems I posted a bit hastily, before I had read the newer posts on this topic. Actually, is it the topic???

My info came from a different site but the figures are pretty close so it seems they are believable.

BTW Thanks cypher for your input - good information

Turboman, these weights were what I have been told by guys in the states who race supra's, US spec models maybe I have been misinformed .

http://www.fast-autos.net/toyota/toyotasupra.html

specs of a 1993 USA model... 3450lbs which is 1565kg... Someone must have been pulling your leg Peter. However isnt the same 6 speed used in the toyota/lexus soarer which is much heavier and I've seen a few of them running some quick times.

Thanks for your info on the supra weight, I will investigate further to reconfirm the excact weight of the US spec Supra, and yes I believe your corret on the Soarer info I will look further into that also this week. :banghead:

Thanks

I'm pretty sure the diff is the same Dana/Spicer in the T6 as is in my T3.

Turbo6man, your T series runs the same 78 series borg warner as the rest of the AU range. Gearsets in 3.08, 3.27, 3.45, and 3.73 and upwards are readily available. The Turbo and V8 BA run the new Dana/Spicer M86 diff, which is a completely different animal. Gearsets are available in ratios of 3.08, 3.23 and 3.46 at this time.

Hi Sixfan. Are you aiming to get your high speed cruising RPM down? At present you should be doing about 4760rpm in top on the 230? limiter. (3.46diff, 0.72 ratio O/D T5.)

The V161 Getrag will take those figures to 5400rpm in top on the 230? limiter. (3.46 diff, 0.818 ratio O/D).

A 3.23 diff will move those figures back to 5050rpm in top on the 230? limiter. Clearly, even a ratio change back up to 3.23 will not get you back to where you are now as far as cruising rpm goes.

Also, as far as launch capability goes, to achieve the same first gear ratio as the V161/3.46diff with your T5, you would have to fit a 4.36 diff?
