I am a member of the XR6 & XR8 Club of Queensland and received one of their emails yesterday which might be of interest. Here is a quote:

No matter how much rustproofing you have had done o

uyour pride and joy, be it a new GT-P or a base model

XR6 (or any car in fact, passenger or High

performance), they are rusting from the assembly line.

We only found out about this through a comprehensive

rebuild of an AUIII XR8 Falcon Ute late early in 2002,

and it affects Sedans & Utes alike.

EVERY car is affected, none escape rust in this Club

unfortunately. We have had examples of new BA XR8 Utes

and Sedans, XR6 & Turbos alike, coming in after only

being owned for 1 MONTH or less, with rust that

threatened to push through cabins, rust through panel

supports, radiator supports, door handles and hinges

etc, boot lids & hinges .. the list goes on, and we're

talking an average of over two thousand dollars worth

of RUST damage and repair per car here .....

Anybody???

Doesnt ford give you like a 5 Year Anti-Rust perforation warranty?

I know the inconvinience of it all but still, its a good idea, ESPECIALLY if this is the case.

I recall a VN dunnydore many years ago, (it was under a year old at the time), we had to do a hail damage repair on....after removing the roof headlining we saw plenty of surface rust in the corners of the doorframes and pillars. I'll bet there is plenty of bare metal in cars, that the paint wont reach, that will corrode sooner or later.

Don't kid yourself, just got my March 03 BA XR8 back from the panel shop, $3500 worth of repair. It was inspected June 03 when the quote was done. 3 months from build date. Under front guards, below windscreen, door hinges.

Ummm, shouldn't this be covered under warranty?

JUST THOUGHT I ADD IN THAT I AM TOO A MEMBER OF XR CLUB OF QLD. BOTH OUR XR6T AND MY DAILY AU XR8 ARE BOOKED IN FOR THE RUST CHECK ORGANISED BY THE CLUB. ALSO OUR T WAS ONE OF THE FIRST LOOKED AT AND LETS JUST SAY ITS A BIT OF A PISS ME OFF. THE COST CUTTING GOT A BIT OUT OF HAND HERE I THINK.

ANYWAY BOTH OUR CARS ARE GOING IN 1 AFTER THE OTHER TO BE LOOKED AT AT THE END OF FEB. ITS NOT SOMETHING TO UNDERREACT TOO. HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF YOU PICKED UP YOUR BRAND NEW XR8 UTE ONLY TO FIND THAT THE TRAY MOUNTS HAVE ALREADY RUSTED HALFWAY THROUGH THE TRAY BODY?????
