Hi guys !

I'm new to this forum ! This site is awesome !!

I'm going to buy an XR6 Turbo soon. I went for a test drive and I love it !!

I still got a few questions about options if you guys can help out:

- 17" or 18" wheels ? Is this going to affect ride and handling ??

- auto or manual ? I like manual but the reviews keep on saying auto is the way to go ??

- is premium brake package required ??

- which sound system should I opt for ? basic, premium ??

what other options should I also get before I get the car ??

welcome mate, do your self a favour and do a lot of reading on here, all will be explained.

Go for the premium brakes.

premium sound is in almost every T but not ours! Personally I would go the premium sound because you can do more things as it has a better wiring loom. Although standard sound is quite acceptable, I think go the premium sound.

18" wheels I am not sure about. I did hear they increase road noise but someone who has optioned them will answer that one for you.

Auto is the way to go according to "motor". It is quite good in sequential mode as well. basically like a 4 speed manual.

Premium brakes I do not know much about. We have yet to have this brake shudder. If you don't want to have the brakes machined every 10 000km, go thew premiums.

premium sound in cars im not sure about, our xr8 is standard sound, and its awsome as is... the utility premium sound is a hell of a lot better then standard in them, but in cars, I think you would get a better aftermarket system for that $900 or so.

with the prem. sound, you get the sub and amp, but woah... 150 watt amp and sub, pretty poor, if u went after market for the sub and amp, dang, you could get an 800w sub for around 4-500$ and a boss 1000w amp for like $300...

just throwing out some stats for ya...

Premium sound is a must. Something else to consider is the electrically adjusted pedals, I was put off the XR6T on my first drive due to driving position with knee hitting armrest, but after driving again with adjustable pedals, moving them closer to the floor, I put my order in that day, it was a definite winner and now Im an XR6T Harvest Green grinner...............

To help in getting a better discount, ring 2 - 3 dealers, and option a plane XR6 then when you got your price, then go to the dealer... now about the upgrade of the motor to the Turbo one. I got a great discount as the dealers are more prone to discounting the XR6 more than a Turbo one..

This way you might be able to add more options in the end depending on your budget.

a lot of guys say the 17's are as good and cheaper to maintain, correct, but if you are like me, the 18's are a must, I love them and always get comments about them...

again, a lot of guys say the manual box is a dog, but I love it...test drove both the auto and manual and went for the manual - still enjoy it muchly!!!

FoMoCo say the standard brakes are just fine, but I think everyone on here will tell ya to go the premo brakes if you can stretch the finances...I took their advice and got the premo stoppers, now I can stop ona dime

Again, Premo sound is great...I take -jep's point about going after market for the amp and sub, but I got the premo sound for the loom and console. You can get a new sub and amp later, but I would stick with the premo sound for now.

Welcome aboard. I went for the standard everything in my T as it is my work run-about. given my time again, I would go for thre premiun sound on the assumption that it would have a better head unit (as this part can't be upgraded), I would definitely go prem. brakes as they stop better from higher speeds and the auto is awsome behind the T and a lot of comment suggests that it may be quicker and finally the 18" tyre is a technically superior tyre which will grip better in the wet, is Japanese V aus. for the 17" hence better quality, 18" squeel less and smoke more, 18" will give you less miles and 18" will tram track more and are a bit noisier. (tyre comments are from my 15 yaers as a trye store owner) Hope this helps.
