Hard Cover Rattle

Guys,

I have a really annoying rattle behind the passenger in my FG xr turbo.

The ute is 2 years old and is fitted with hard cover and bar.

It is really bad on rough roads-took it back to the dealer-they had it for 4 days and still couldnt find it !!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like its coming from the small cut out section behind the passenger but I cant nail it down.

Im hoping someone else has had a similar noise and sorted it.

The cover latches fine so I dont think its that

Sounds like my rattle and I cant find it either so im not much help.

It sounds like its between the cab and tray. Have had it up on a hoist and still cant find it.

Keen for a solution if anyone has an idea as its driving me nuts.

Im seriously thinking of selling the hard top & Bar and just going with the standard tonneau-looks average though

I doubt its from the hardtop as I dont have one.

next time I have it up on a hoist ill keep searching.

if I ever find the bastard rattle ill update in here.

only thing I have noticed is it only rattles when its warm/hot weather.

I thought it was the latches on mine.. But I out electrical tape on it so there was no metal to metal contact, still there. Can also be leaves, but I can't work out where, or tray mounts

Mine has the same. It sounds like metal on metal rattle.

I have this feeling it might be around the connection of the tray to the chasis. Or the suspension

ok this is good, we can start eliminating some of the areas.

its not the leaves as I just had mine changed, problem was there before and after suspension change.

I doubt its the tub itself.

when my ute was a week old there was a massive thump from the tub.

took it to dealer, the tub was loose, all fixed now.

very different sound to what I hear now.

its more of a metal on metal rattle like others describe rather than a thump.

I have only developed this rattle in the last 3 months or so @ 40,000km

more?

Ok,

Now this is gonna sound real weird BUT-

I tried putting anti rattle tape here and there on the weekend with no success.

Then I had to drive home from Canberra in the rain

-Result

Rattle is gone.

I know this doesnt make any sense but the rattle hasnt come back yet

Now Im thinking maybe tub mounting rubbers or something along those lines.

Check the spare tyre is tighted up properly a common cause for rattles in the utes
