Coolant Reservoir Leaking - Help

Hi All,

Can someone please confirm if the coolant reservoir is supposed to have an overflow hole at the bottom or not?

Mine is leaking from the bottom and I am just unsure if it's cracked or just deliberately overflowing due to a failed thermostat. The thermostat pipe also is showing signs of a failed o-ring with spots of burnt coolant. I have ordered a new thermostat but just not sure if I should be ordering a new reservoir or not..

Also my reservoir is a replacement item I picked up from ebay recently..

No does not have overflow. If it isn't genuine there could be a small one near the cap. Check all hoses to make sure they are on properly and clamped.

It's definately the reservoir that's leaking from the bottom, can't believe anyone would bother selling a product that fails so quickly..

So does a thermostat failure cause excess pressure in the coolant system?

Probably no point swapping out the reservoir until the new thermostat arrives, don't want to cook another one..

Funny thing is, the temperature gauge hasn't moved.

Some temp guages won't register if theres no coolant in the system. Obviously yours has coolant cause its leaking but don't rely on temp guage when driving.

Actually becasue the falcons use a cylinder head temp sensor which is an ntc thermistor it will register high temp when not in contact with coolant, theres probably nothing wrong with your thermostat but its easy to test with a kettle full of water, id say the header tank is just stuffed, not uncommon

Also FYI - The coolant reservoir does have an overflow hole at the bottom that runs straight down the centre from the side of the cap at the top. I have a feeling this is the weak point of where mine is leaking from.
