30/08/12 01:46 AM30/08/12 01:46 AM #1 Good MorningHaving decided that I now moving the BF FPV F6 Ute and moving into a FG .. Original I thought (having driven the GT) , that I would move into a GT from the F6 .. later on reflection , and some reading on the experience of many F6 owners , I agreed with their findings and thought I would stay with the F6.Now the problem arises , following further reading - if , as imagined , I moved into a new F6 , how would it be possible to mod the vehicle to 400rwkw - now the standard - which was once - 300rwkw if the vehicle is under warranty - I couldn't afford to tip money into the project and then only to find , should something go wrong , which may have nothing to do with the mod - that I will have forfeited the warranty - Not a outcome I am seeking and or hope for .So .. if I want to get involved in the performance vehicle away from the 'stock' as released by the factory - are we saying , that I have either topurchase new - hold the vehicle until the warranty expires - and or purchase a BF - FG secondhand car with low k's preferred and then set about modifying ..Is another alternative to look for a vehicle which has already been mod ? .. Some, will recall the Winter White F6 Sedan for sale - boosting from memory 600rwkw for a asking price of $50,000 - certainly at face value it looked to be a cheap car, however , as I have not been part of the mod, you are then paying $50k for a car which in fact may require additional work to keep on the road as a daily driver ? - Thou - is a 600rwkw car be considered as a daily driver ??? ( this illustration is by no means a prejudice and deflamatory statement about the Winter White F6 above - I am trying to provide a example of what I face in my decision to purchase new or secondhand )I look forward to your thoughtsMany thanks once again :sungum:
30/08/12 01:58 AM30/08/12 01:58 AM #2 Warranty is a joke. Sometimes its not worth the paper its written on. If going with the BF I wouldn't worry about waiting until the warranty has expired right out as it'll be ~4yrs old already (at the least). If you have the cash go for mods right away. But if you insist on waiting for warranty, go for it but I don't see the point. Fair enough if its a brand new car but not that old.Look up the 400+ club part of the forum and read up what fellow b-series have had to upgrade to get there. Will be plenty of info there mate. You sure do love your hyphens don't you? Lol
30/08/12 02:11 AM30/08/12 02:11 AM #3 I think if lookindg at a car that is already modded then you need to consider the quaility of parts used, how along ago the mods were done and the tuner used. If you are able to have the car checked by another tuner as to its condition then you could be picking up a bargin if the price and condition is right.
30/08/12 02:54 AM30/08/12 02:54 AM #4 Author Hello WA G6ETI loved what you have done with your G6E ............So much so, I stated looking at the model range to see whether or not , the model could be a option ?. Did you purchase the car new ? or had you purchased the car secondhand with the view of modifying to suit your needs and look you were after ?Many thanks
30/08/12 03:14 AM30/08/12 03:14 AM #5 It was dealer principles car, only 5k on the clock and looked after like a baby. No one else drove the car and it was detailed once a week, like new still. Was not so easy to get the 50th here in WA when I was looking. I was modifying anyway but wanted new/demo and the 50th G6ET was the look I was after. 30/08/12 03:35 AM30/08/12 03:35 AM #6 I think a couple of dealers sell KPM modified cars with warranty. You may want to sus that out. Otherwise you can't mod and keep warranty. You have to decide one or the other. I kissed my warranty goodbye and the only things needed doing are diff bushes. Buying a modified car can be awesome or cursed. Do your research first.
30/08/12 04:03 AM30/08/12 04:03 AM #7 As Shy said, warranty is a joke! My old man bought his GT from factory and everything that should have come up as a warranty replacement or fix the dealer wouldn't cover. Plus you need to take into account things like services etc. To keep warranty you need to service with the dealer or approved mechanic etc. If you can do your services yourself then the coin you save might just equate to what warranty could pay out in the future.Plus if your going for big power your probably going to do things like diff bushes, suspension, driveline parts etc as security anyway so stuff that probably would break under warranty you may replace yourself anyway in the future. As for second hand cars it depends how pedantic you are. I just went through the process of selling my NA to upgrade to a T and the hassle was ridiculous and I basically got nothing for my old car. Also the new car is great but with 80,000kms on the clock theres little things you wish you didn't have (farked bushes, farked shocks stone chips etc etc) Little things but none the less annoying. If you can afford it go for a demo, ex-dealer owned car or new for a good price and find a ford dealer nearby that will cover basic mods (some will cover exhaust, cold air intake, things like that) and see how you go.My 2 cents
30/08/12 08:58 AM30/08/12 08:58 AM #8 Author Bellato Your 2 cents worth of comments , is worth much more !! There is a good feeling to hear , what you had possible thought was very much on the money . Easier to hear comments from those whom have experienced the process and of trails of their decisions. Many thanks for your comments
30/08/12 09:15 AM30/08/12 09:15 AM #9 Author Hello Earlier in a thread I had stated ' having driven that 5.4lt V8' the decision to go Turbo was the right one . Many before me have stated bang for your buck is exceptional only to be matched by the much more expensive European models... I vowed I would never revert back to the V8 - however I then demo the GT and things have all of sudden got a little 'grey'.I don't wish to reignite the discussion as to whether to purchase a GT - v - F6, however in line with this thread , given the current availability of 2009/10 5.4lt for around the low $40's with very low K's when you consider the age (An example is a 2010 ute with 30k - $18k spend on a Herrod Supercharger 500kw asking $44)What are your thoughts around whether this unit or similar units could they be viable/a consideration at that the asking price against say a 2009/10 F6 with higher K's.Many thanks again
