Earls Turbo Filter Direction, Why/ How?

Hey guys.

I was just playing around and cleaning my Earls turbo filter and was looking at how they say it's directional. Can someone explain mews hat makes it directional?

I know that the filter and O rings are at the outlet end and that it has a gauze but the gauze isn't directional. I cant figured out why it wouldn't work if it was facing the other direction.
