Hi guys

I'm finally getting around to doing the rear bushes on my bf this weekend. I bought the bushes, sway bar links and a press :). So what I'm asking is, is there any secret tricks that will help or is it just mark where the cradle sits prior to removal, mark the camber adjusting bolts on the hubs, measure the diff bushes installed depths and press out all the rest of the bushes and reinstall in reverse order?

They're all super pro bushes too

Cheers

Chris

Swear a lot. No tips sorry but I thought it was a pain in the ass to do it in the garage with no hoist. Some other people don't seem to have any trouble though.

Also if your center diff bush is stuffed be prepared to spend some time trying to get it out or scraping all the rubber stuck in the housing.

hahaha yeah there's normally alot of swearing done when I'm doing work in my garage. Its so frustrating, since I've had a car I've worked in workshops and been able to do my work there. Since starting work on a mine site a year ago I've had no workshop :( Almost tempted to go back to slogging it out every day just for use of the workshop facilities. I have pulled them out on the floor twice before with alot less tools so shouldn't be too bad....... (famous last words) :)

I've heard that the control arms can take a fair bit of pressing to remove, do you reckon a 6t press will get them out?

Control blade bushes are a Kent. Cut the centre out then use a hacksaw to cut throught the shell in two spots then knock it out with a drift.

Putting them back in can also be a PITA. I use a piece of threaded road and two pressing plates to hold the bush on a 45deg angle (so its partially started in the bore) and then use the press to push it home.Leave the rod and plates in place when you do so. Prevents the bush from escaping at high speed!

The LCA and Toe arm bushes are a walk in the park with a 6t press. The ball joints on the knuckles can be a pain due to access.

How much are these presses? I assume speaking about them its something relatively cheap and any tom, dikk or harry can buy?

My 8T SuperChump special was $88 (on sale) Did five cars before the jack seized up. Now has a 12t jack in it for extra special frame bending powa!

12t is just an bigger Orcon bottle jack. All the little presses just use a small bottle jack to provide the muscle.
