Did my 1st track day in the BA yesterday and what can I say.

It was a lot harder than I expected. The thing was definitely not built to go around corners.

I could beat most things down the straight but with only having King springs and Monroe gas shocks as suspension mods, I think it's safe to say I'll leave it at home next time.

The car also got hot very quickly but it was a 30+ degree day. I could only manage 2-3 laps before the car went into limp mode.

Any one else had much experience with a lightly modded T on the track?

Will most definitely be ordering a trans cooler asap. After 3 laps the bit on the dash that shows what gear you're in was flashing because the box was so hot.

Heat is a major issue.

I don't even bother tracking the car in the summer months.

As it's a BA auto I'd be fitting a tranny cooler asap with fresh transmission oil and filter but also an engine oil cooler. At the end of each session do a cool down lap and pop the bonnet open. Handbrake off. I also use a big industrial fan now when stopped in the pits to aid cooldown. Also fitted one of these to monitor temps more accurately with an alarm sounding so you don't need to keep looking at gauges while concentrating on driving fast:

How did the brakes cope?

Brake fluid upgrade to 5.1 and better front pads at a minimum. DS2500 if you use for street and track but it's better to use a decicated track pad like Endless. Cheapest option is this and some slotted DBA4000 rotors. Brembos then AP monoblock if more serious.

Sway Bars has been done to death but I recommend the biggest you can get on the front and a 27mm adjustable on the rear. Your stock monroes will be toast anyway with lowered Kings so best option as a street track combo is some Bilsteins or better still have them rebuilt to match your spring rate.

Vented bonnets are expensive. Cheap option is to remove the rubber strip/seal under the bonnet at the back of the engine.

Tyres are still the best bang for buck upgrade. The list of semis is endless as is the required budget. What tyres were on it for this day?

Cheap options for Street/track are Kumho KU36, Hankook RS3 from tirerack.com. A cheap second set wheels and some Porche Cup front slicks are great if you can find them.

There are much better R semis out there like RE55, A050 etc but come with the pricetag. I use R888's and find them fine.

Well it hit 35 at Winton yesterday so it wasn't the most ideal conditions but I still had fun.

Ill definitely fit a tranny cooler soon and get it serviced but I don't know if I'll go as far as putting an oil cooler on as I don't ant to track the car too much. I've got a GT-R at home to waiting for an engine build and once that's done it will be a better base for the track.

The brakes were fine actually but I only really had the balls to jump on them hard later on in the day. I've got the pbr upgrade option with DBA4000s, Bendix Ultimate's and DOT5.1 fluid which really surprisingly held up all day. Never had one bit of brake fade.

If I do end up doing sway bars I'll most likely just go for a set of non adjustable whitelines as I don't have the cash for the adjustable ones. As for the suspension, it only has about 5000km on it. If I did ever upgrade I'd most likely put a set of coilovers in but I wouldn't mind some Bilsteins. Can't really afford to do much to the car though.

Already took the rubber strip out.

I just had sh*t tyres on it for the day, I felt that better suspension and less weight would have helped more. I just had some cheap 235's on the front and 255 pirelli's on the rear. I had KU36's on it before but they were horrible in the wet. I lost it one day and had an accident with them on so I got rid of them. I used KU36's on the GT-r though and loved them.

Just remember that this is a street car and when ever it gets driven on the track it will mainly be in street trim.

1:58 at Winton which I was a bit disappointed with. A mate had ran his BFII ute which was standard except for a thyphoon tune and he managed a 1:50 but he'd been on the track before.

Having a missing front swaybar link didn't help my times though...

Yeah hopefully get down to a 1:50 after I sort out a few things and head back there in march when it's a bit cooler.

Mate's mrs is a professional photographer so when I can get a hold of her pics I'll post em up.
