November 30, 200322 yr #11 The APS guys spent a little time discussing fuel at the Brisbane Dyno day. From memory, APS has conducted back-to-back tests and found that Optimax gives more power than the other available PULPs.In any case, I have run Optimax in mine since day 1.
November 30, 200322 yr #12 In the NSW WRX club we have run tests and found Optimax to be the higher RON rating fuel. From memory, about 99.1 RON. NO independent Shell servo can sell Optimax, so you'll always be buying it from a Company owned servo.I believe the XR6T has a smart ecu that will retard timing to a certain extent if all you can put in there is regular. I ran my WRX on Ultimate and Optimax and will be doing the same with the XR6T. Optimax is great for ólder' cars too. It has a lot of cleaning properties.Andrew
November 30, 200322 yr #13 Mostly Shell Optimax .. but I've been caught out once or twice and had to use Vortex Gold and Mobil. To be honest, I didn't notice any difference. Never used ULP.
December 1, 200322 yr #14 Mostly used Catex Vortex, or Shell Optimax. Had to use ULP once in the country, & noticed the ecconomy (almost 1 litre/100km worse by the dash computer) & the performance was "flat" and was "pinging at around 60% throttle - which it had never done before or after.
December 1, 200322 yr #15 My girl has had optimax from day 1, so I can't compare it with any other fuel
December 1, 200322 yr #16 Stupid question.Does the XR6T need premium or is it happy with ULP?Its not a stupid question. Performance wise I didn't notice any difference when I started using Optimax as opposed to regular unleaded. It might be a cleaner fuel though.Rob Thanks,I find the same with the AU, not much of an increase in power but certainly better fuel ecomomy.I'll be running mainly Mobile Synergy in mine and it's good to know that it will run on ULP when prises get high.
December 1, 200322 yr #17 OPTIMAX FOR ME....have tried others but I too couldn't really notice the difference.
December 1, 200322 yr #18 when my girl has Ultimate is when she's happiest.Woolies/Coles & some Independant servo's were importing fuel from Taiwan, poor quality. My local servo now imports fuel from Russia & have changed their name to Freedom fuels, upon hearing this they've lost $500 per month from this little black duck.Scotty Woolworths have never used imported Asian fuel - their fuel source has been mostly Mobil, except where Mobil don't have a distributor, in which case they buy BP or whatever. This info has been publicly stated by a representative from Mobil so I am pretty sure of it's accuracy.I would be very wary of buying fuel from independents until such time as the authorities get the teeth to make and administer fuel quality laws in this country.
December 1, 200322 yr #19 I have fuel cards for either Caltex or Shell. I generally use Optimax. I reckon Optimax gives the car a little bit more 'pep' when you depress the loud pedal, compared to normal unleaded.
December 1, 200322 yr #20 I have only used bp ultimate in my last three cars and will not use any thing else.
