Lock/unlock G6Et

Hey peoples,

I am about to pick up a 50th anniversary G6E turbo next week. For my job, I spend alot of time in and out if my car making quick stops at peoples places.

Rather than having to stop the car and remove the keys continuously- along with having the motor go through the hot and cold cycle constantly, I am wondering what it would take for an Auto Electrician to re-wire the factory immobiliser/central locking etc so that I can have a key in the ignition with the car running and a key in my pocket to lock/unlock the car at the same time.

It's also a security issue having a running G6E Turbo sitting on the street with no one in it. I work in some real dodgy areas.

Any help appreciated....

I'd get a turbo timer - if you have the key in the ignition then they can walk up - smash a window - unlock the car and drive off.

if you have a turbo timer you can set it to run for 10 mins - if someone gets in and touches the foot brake/hand brake it'll shut the car off.

just did a quick test for you

I left key in and engine running

2nd key wouldnt lock/unlock with remote

but 2nd key locked all doors etc.. the old fashioned way and engine kept running, and then unlocked just fine too

so maybe just use 2nd key

Thanks for the idea but I'd rather not have to put the key in and out all day/night- that and the amount of times ive driven previous cars off with the countdown on only to find the steering wheel lock up is disturbing....! That and turbo timers are the best way for someone to steal your car!

I like the ease of one click and I'm in. Having to pull a second key out of my pocket to lock and unlock the car every time I hop in or out will be a bit painful, especially if I do it up to 30 times in one day.

I might ask Ford if they could use their scan tools to allow a second remote to work with the ignition on. if not, I'm off to an Auto Electrician....

Did you even read Mitch's post properly? A timer hooked up properly will stop your engine if the hand brake is disengaged and/or the brake pedal is touched.

Leaving your car running with the key in the ignition in what you've already referred to as dodgy areas isn't real clever is it? Or am I missing something somewhere?

I'm quite sure that if the engine is running at all, key or not (with a turbo timer going) you wont be able to bop your way in or out with the key fob. Only manually. Clutz- let us know how you go with ford if they can help, as I'd love to be able to pull up at the shops for a min and not leave the keys in while its idling. Turbo timers are for imports :stirthepot:

If I wanted to lock the car when it's still running with a t.timer on, I'd still have to use the key and manually do it which to me is a bit of a pain in the ass and kinda defeats the whole purpose... If someone does get into the car and try to drive off in it with the key still in the ignition and it stops because they put their foot on the brake- there's nothing really stopping them from starting it back up and driving off.

Nothing wrong with an import! :surrenderwave:

T.timers are like paving the way for someone who knows what they're doing to steal your car. Not to mention cops having that one extra thing to hold against you when it comes to a major or minor defect or a loss adjuster knocking you back from your claim if you didn't ring your insurer up to let them know about it....

I pick the car up on Tuesday, so will speak to the service manager about it when I speak to him!

No, they can be connected to still allow the use of a remote

The key wouldn’t be in the ignition

How? It can’t be started without a key.

It’s illegal to leave an idling vehicle unattended in any case, and good luck explaining to the loss adjuster that your vehicle was stolen because you left the key in the ignition.

But anyway, best of luck with it.

The whole point of this thread was to discuss the option of locking and unlocking the car using a remote with the engine running. I seriously doubt an opportunist is going to try and pop the window then jump in and drive off.

Thanks for your input though.
