19/07/11 11:41 AM19/07/11 11:41 AM #2 Are you sure its the brake caliper and not the handbrake? Are all the caliper slides clean and lubed and is the brake fluid clean and full?
19/07/11 11:44 AM19/07/11 11:44 AM #3 Mine did exactly the same thing. I complained about it twice to my normal service guys they never fixed it. I took it to MC2 Automotive in Dandenong last week and he fixed it immediately. Helps cos he knows BA's back to front. Top bloke. He also fixed a few other stuff ups the other guys did.
20/07/11 03:23 AM20/07/11 03:23 AM #5 Something inside the brake booster. He said it's a common problem on BA's and 2 ways to fix depending on severity.
24/07/11 10:35 AM24/07/11 10:35 AM #6 Author the hand brake has been ajusted it dosnt seem to be that, my mechanic seems to think it is the master cylinder,it gets hot and the brakes lets go with a funny sound like they are bent or something
24/07/11 10:38 AM24/07/11 10:38 AM #7 Author does replacing the booster fix the problem?dont care if I have to replace just hate chasing my tale replacing everything to not fix the problem!ide take it to dandenong but reside on the gold coast Edited 24/07/11 10:40 AM24/07/11 10:40 AM by dobeat
24/07/11 10:47 AM24/07/11 10:47 AM #8 The atmospheric valve in the booster starts to leak and applies the brakes. Changing the booster will fix it, but you may be able to get the atmospheric valve serviced if its not to far gone.
25/07/11 06:27 AM25/07/11 06:27 AM #9 The master cylinder applies itself due to the brake booster.Replacing the brake booster will fix it, but it can also be fixed with a simple mod to the adjuster nut behind the master cylinder. Either wind the bolt in 3mm or put 2 washers between the master cylinder and the booster. Also machine your front rotors as the will have DTV (Disc Thickness Variation) due to the brakes applying themselves.I worked at a Ford dealer from 1998 - 2010 including 4 years as a Master Tech until I recently opened my own workshop.
