Hey guys,

Just bought a XR6T its a Nov 02 BA, 5 speed manual, havent done any work to it, except over the weekend I put on a dose pipe on it. (Please don't go on about the dose pipe, as it was my decision and I like the sound, and dont beleive any of that crap that it ruins your turbo). Anyway after putting on the dose pipe I have noticed a big loss in power, and when I hit boost, its asif the rev limiter kicks in early and I hear loud popping, before the rev limiter comes into full swing.

I'm not too sure what this may be but if anyone can give any input that would be greatly apreciated,

Compressor surge doesn't shorten the life of a turbo? In that case the guy who invented the bov to prevent it pulled a sweet scam and made a butload of money off it. If only you where around to save us from this folly.

Now to try and be helpful, normally if you work on a car then something is wrong afterwards it's something you did. Recheck your work, make sure all electrical plugs are reconected, any vacuum hoses and stuff like that.

I assumed it had something to do with the ECU as the air intake is all over the place and the computer has no idea what is happening? Am I wrong by saying this? Just using common sense as I dont know too much about these sort of things.

I'd say while you where fitting your dose pipe you knocked one of the boost solenoid hoses off.....

thanks mate - I'll have to take a look, Ive taken the pipe off for now until I get to the bottom of the problem. My old man reckons the computer is out of wack and all the air flow is freaking out the ecu. After I get the mods I want done I'm going to get it tuned.

Boost solenoid is fine, sprayed some degreaser in while I was there. Anyone else have any idea? I really want a full continuous boost back. The boost just kind of cuts on and off until it hits the limiter, and if I push it real hard puffs of black smoke come out the exhaust as I shift from first to second.
