nah... all is normal sept the noise and the slight stiffening... on the day, when I pulled up after a 10 minute session it was like it had no power steering at all.

the belt would of been giving the pulley a decent work out though, snapping from 2 to 6000rpm in a blink of an eye all morning.

I have noticed this when hitting large puddles. The water makes the belt slip. Maybe your belt is a little worn and slipping slightly.

it doesnt sound like a belt slipping or the usual rooted bearing noise... its more like a really really really fast tapping noise...

What colour is the fluid ???

Both Holdens and Fords pumps arn't the best. A better high temp fluid goes a long way to helping them last.

You could try draining the fluid out of it and replacing it with decent stuff. But once they get noisy they tend to stay that way.

Sounds a bit like an over tight belt or off center belt rubbing on something to me...

new pump from wreckers, easy fix

I rooted a power steering pump in my supercharged awd magna trying to kind of successfully and unsuccessfully do donuts in a.... on a skid pan ;)

did you hold it at full lock against the stops for any time at all? hows the fluid smell and look?

best case is the pulleys are crap as they all suck from factory, all mine make ugly sounds and it's done just 14,000km

or you could try for warranty
