E85 Shelf Life

Very little of my time is trully my own. Couple hours a week at best. Not complaining, just how it is and has been for a while.

I drive a BF one tonner as a primary vehicle. I own a BF Typhoon that's.. something.. not sure what it is anymore. It sits under 2 car covers in the carport. e85 is what goes in it.

As an example, I drove the Typhoon in mid January. I did not remove the covers until mid March. It sat with as it turns out, a few litres of e85. It started just, I filled it, drove it to redcliffe and back twice and covered it back up. I virtually did the same this weekend probably 4 weeks later..

So, with fuel that's several weeks old, near 2 months in one case, it seemed to go perfectly alright. Mind though, with 400 odd wheel kw and a couple coke bottles full of E juice it was pretty lively. heh..

I know that without the lead, petrol lost a lot of its shelf life. its gotta last a couple months though surely to Christ. people were telling me e85 wouldn`t last five mins and I can plainly see it does, though stretching into winter and the winter blend / summer blend cross over could be interesting.

I am however starting to wonder about e85 becoming really mainstream. Unless they make improvements to the bowsers and the rubber seals in them as " stream " is exactly what you can have running on your foot when you fill the car. It doesn`t have a head ache inducing reek like petrol, but jeez its cold!

I was wondering that, because I only drive mine on the weekends these days and if I convert it to e85 it might spend a bit of time sitting in the tank!
