What about a combination of the led flasher in series with the feed to each LED flasher, and using the globe (as the load resistor) in parallel with the LED globe, but inside the boot so you don't see it? I've found a device that simulates the load of normal globe circuit but switches LED lights, and provides feedback to the flasher if the LED circuit fails. This achieves compliance with ADR 13/00 so unlike other options is legal.
