Am working in the US this month, and am driving a rental Ford.

The 2003 Taurus, whilst not being a terrible device and far better looking than the model they tried to sell unsuspecting Australians........but it sure aint no XR.

It has an asthmatic V6 a bit like the one in a Dunnydoore, make a lot of noise when you push the pedal, but that is about all. On the plus side the auto is cool because it doesn’t seem to ever change into top gear around town. It only changes above about 40mph.

This makes it seem more responsive than it actually is, as it doesn’t need to change down to get a move on.

The interior looks and feels much lower rent than the Falcon, for example the dash still has a mechanical odometer, and the extra bit of seat joined to the drivers seat an arm rest that folds up and becomes a bench seat (similar to what you get in a HiLux). Combined with the column shift does not add to the luxury feel. Even when compared to its more direct comparison which I guess would be the XT. Other odd things are the fact that you cannot turn off the ventilation fan, it only go's to low. And the head, foot, face type knob is the same one that does the a/c so you can't choose where the air comes out with the a/c on. You can only choose a/c or a/c max. :bookworm:

The suspension is very soft but then the roads are not super smooth here either, so with the big differences between heights between the sections of concrete in the highways, you constantly drive to the sound of kerdonk kerdonk kerdonk, so if you had 19" rims, they would last about 10ks before they were square.

It does have some other cool things like lights (not blue though) in the bottom of the door mirrors that come on when you unlock the doors, which show you where the kerb or any puddles are. But the doors all locking when you put the car in drive or the 120dB ding ding ding until you put the seat belt on, I can do without.

At first the boot looks huge but if it had a 'real' spare in it, then..... not so big.

I am glad Ford continues to make 'special' cars for us here in Oz. Because if they ever stopped.

I would need to save a lot more money to get a propper car from Germany.

I miss my XR6T.......oh yes and my family, :finger: at least I still have you guys........hello

...... is anyone there.....HEEEEELLLLLOOOO......

anyone....

.......Ken?

..........Kitty?

.......... hello?

Ah it’s late anyway I'm going to bed. :finger:

Good review mate. They look a little like a mini AU from the rear. it would be cool to take your XR6 to Yankeeland and show them what a real car is like!

You are right there Falchoon....

I try and explain how cool they are, put it into HP and 1/4 mile times.... and they just look at me with a confused expression and say

"but its only got 6 cyclinders you say, so its not a V8 or V10?". :finger:

It would be wasted on most of them.

Anyway have you forgotten how long each of us has had to wait for our cars.

Can you imagine how Ken would have coped when he rang to find an ETA on this delivery date, and they said

"...well we are all geared up for LHD cars this month, you will have to wait 12 months"

YCL, G'Day ... guess you miss that saying as well? ;)

I understand exactly what you're saying about the cars over there ... I look long and hard each time, but can't find anything that comes close to the shape and styling of my precious.

Canada is the same ... crap cars!

In my opinion, America is a really good place to keep Americans ... other than that?

Have a good trip, mate, but hurry home and stay safe. :smilielol:

Absolutely, totally agree.

Going to war without the French is like going duck hunting without your piano accordian.

The French: The last war they one was in 1066 (and then they were called the Normans) They didn't win the French Revolution as they only fought the French.

I'm afraid I find the French a repulsive race of people.

Americans, on the other hand, I have the deepest admiration for. It is the only place where a nobody can work hard for their dream and have that dream come to fruition. It is a country where patriotism is not a dirty word. It is a country that is 'multi nationalist' not 'multi culturalist'. Therefore every race is represented within that country but they are Americans first and foremost and English, German, Syrian, Indian etc second.

I'm afraid Australia still has that deep resentment for Britain due to her convict origins and the large proportion of Irish migrants. This is evident in the revisionists who rewrite Australian and regional history to suit their Left leaning ideology.

If any country has the potential to decline into Socialism (Communism, or any other ideological Ism) it is Australia.

The Tall Poppy Syndrome is just another manifestation of Egalitarianism. Not everybody is equal, and the meritorious should not be penalised by having their hard earned redistributed to those that don't work or try hard for it (again XFWANNABE, I'm not having a shot at you!

You're a funny bas*ard, Plonky. :nod::smilielol:

You're also a deep thinker with some valid opinions. I always enjoy reading your threads as they are informed, intelligent and factual. :pics:

... did I mention, you're a funny bas*ard ...
