May 19, 201016 yr #1 Hi Guys,I am just wanting some opinions on tyres for my BF XR6 with factory 18 inch rims. 245/40/18. I have previously run the Marangoni tyres which are great for grip, but I just can't get them to last very long......I'm driving a 6 speed manaul and I'm not sure if tyre wear is reduced because of the gearbox. The auto guys dont seem to have as many problems with wear from general chat. I'm not doing burnouts or anything like that, but I frequently have to drive through the hills, so it seems the tyre wear is very even across the width of the tread.I was looking at some Toyos, but I'm just not sure what will last, but wont compromise grip too much. I really would love to go back to the Marangonis!!!Any opinions and advice would be greatly appreciated.Cheers.
May 19, 201016 yr #2 people will say Michelin pp3. I say bridgestone re 050's. Depends on your budget.
May 19, 201016 yr #3 I had a set of Marangonis on mine as well....got 30000ks out of em' too...and like you, I don't do burnouts or dragrace my car....I do however love to go out and tear up a windy road every now and then But come new tyre time I was a tightass and got a set Nexen 6000's put on.. BIG MISTAKE ......and I'm now saving up for another set of Marangonis Learn from my mistake mate....don't buy tyres based just on price. I found that the Marangonis were a great compromise on wear vs cost vs grip.
May 19, 201016 yr #4 Author I'm not all that conceraned about the price. Obviously not looking at very top end of the market. My problem is that I have got under 10,000 kms out of a set of Marangonis and lets be honsest that is pure rubbish. It makes it sound like I've been lighting up the rears, but these tryes have been mainly up front and have only just been moved back/rotated a few months back. Are Marangonis Mythos just a really soft compound compared to other tyres? On hot days I can see rocks from the bitumen melting into them.......I want a set of tyres to last some distance.
May 20, 201016 yr #6 Are Mytho's supposed to be a soft/fast wearing tread?I've had them on the rear of the ute for over a year now... seemed to take ages to wear out.My personal experience wouldn't give me much reason to buy Mythos again. Had to replace the fronts after 4 months due to cracks in the sidewall. The rears started doing it a fair while ago but I cbf'd replacing them until they're 100% dead. - I also found Mythos didn't screach much... kinda a pain when your wanting to scare that v8 on the highway with a quick 2nd gear screach
May 20, 201016 yr #7 My problem is that I have got under 10,000 kms out of a set of Marangonis and lets be honsest that is pure rubbish. I'm stunned Brett .....I put almost 30000ks on mine over two years and that included some pretty serious night runs and a track day at Wakefield!! As for cracks in the sidewall??...never happened to me Ask anybody whos ever been on a night run with me.....they cop heaps! Jman....I'll swap with you mate....these fr*ggen' Nexens screech like buggery...I've tried a dozen different pressures in the bl**dy things and when you start to push em',they still do it....drive me nuts Actually, I just looked at your signature pic....are you running 245.40.18"?....just wondering if a different size might have something to do with it that's all. I'll go the Marangonis again....and not because I'm a tyre dealer either Just know what worked for me is all..... Edited May 20, 201016 yr by BionicXR6T
May 20, 201016 yr #8 Nah 19's mate.I did a bit of a search on reviews about the Marangonis, apparently sidewall cracks are fairly common. (Not all though)My local Bob Jane shop hates them... say they see it all the time.I'll be trying KU36s next Edited May 20, 201016 yr by Jman
May 20, 201016 yr #9 No worries mate...thanks for the tip.. Might just check out those and the maxxies before I spend the cash
May 21, 201016 yr #10 Author Hi guys,I've just foudn the copies of my tyre purchases and it seems when I do the maths that I got 16,000kms out of a set of Marangonis. Better than my 10,000 estimate but is this still really bad? Should I go down the same path again? I was recommended to also try some Sumitomo brand. Are they any good?Cheers,Brett.
