Don't know how many times I have seen articles on the Adventura and Crewman. Not only that we are still getting the spiel on the Monaro and you are more than made aware of the relationship with Saab and Daewoo to the parent company(GM). The General seems to have a lot of friends in the press whereas Ford barely rates a mention. I see where Falcon has finally beaten the Late model camira in the latest sales figures so something must be working! But I bet you won't see much about it in the press! Paranoid or what?

But thankfully there was also a sizable article about the Territory on the next page

Quite often Holden (or one of it's siblings such as SAAB or Daewoo) have pop-up ads on there so they (GMH) seem to be a major financial contributor. In a perfect world this should not make a difference to the content or bias...but as you know we don't live in a perfect world. It's a catch 22 or snowball effect to quote a couple of cliches. The more exposure a certain brand (anything, not just cars) gets the more successful the product seems to be. People see X brand on the TV, newspaper or driving around the street and think it must be a fantastic thing because evcerywhere you look you see one so to a certain extent this makes people want to purchase one, adding to the snowball. I think also that GMH (and GM) are a more successful company than Ford and therefore have more of the folding stuff to throw around on advertising.

Spot on! Why not an add about the features of the cars, not this touchy feely BS about how driving one makes you a better person! Make it a contest about the product, not how clever the smarmy advertising execs are.

Though saying that I reckon Ford ought to capitalise more on the Car of the Year thing. And also the latest sales figures showing that Falcon outsold Late model camira for the first time in 72 months. Falcon might only do it for 1 month but they ought to make hay while the sun shines. There seems to be a contradiction with authorities banning the (original) XR8 salt lake ad ("must be stuck in second gear!" :D ) but allow a number of other ads (again, mostly Holden) showing cars being driven erraticly and spinning wheels. Three recent examples are: 1. Ad for Nissan Patrol where the new one and the old one are joined by a chain and the new one is dragging the old one backwards while smoke is billowing from the spinning back wheels (isn't it supposed to be a four wheel drive - why aren't the front wheels spinning as well? ). If this doesn't show irresponsible driving I don't know what does.2. New Late model camira one tonner spinning the back wheels burying the old one.3. New Late model camira dual cab ute, again spinning the rear wheels (how does this make the front of the vehicle stretch?!).There are a number of other ads for 4WDs which show irresponsible driving but somehow they don't seem to attract the attention of the relevant authorities.

Ford invented the thing in Australia and do we see an add for a Falcon ute? No, but get sick of seeing the other mobs adds. I would be flogging the point that Ford did invent it and therefore do 'em best!

dgsmenace Member 13 Member For: 23y 6d Location: Newcastle NSW Posted 06/10/03 08:17 AM Posted 06/10/03 08:17 AM Nor do Ford need a add for the Fairlane as it is a top seller too ! :D :D
