After the most recent power upgrades and after a full test of these we had a FAIL situation on the axel tube coming away from the diff. There are only 3 factory welds that hold the tube into place within the diff so the tube was persuaded back into its house and aligned with the factory welds re done and 4 additional welds spaced evenly were the tube marries into the diff on both axels. All up to remove the ass end/fix and re-install took about 9 hours with a few beers and by no means am I a mechanic. Has anyone else had this problem ??

damn that's sh*tty work from the factory.

Did you use a jig at all when putting back together?

Or make sure that the axel tube was aligned 100% with the other side?

Welding will pull the tube either way, and could cause more wear/damage after you put it back together.

Think the jig they use is just a machined tube that goes through the diff at both ends.

Sorry couldn't finish the post above couldnt see what I was typing. (stupid computer :spoton: )

Just thought I'd ask if youd checked these things, but still good cheap fix if it works and nice work. Wouldnt of thought a diff would break there. :dontknow: thought gears/axle would have gone first. you notice any damage inside??

Tell me about it !!! when I told my tuner about this it was the first for him too. No damage at all inside. Have broken a few tail shafts/flex plates/gearboxes/diffs and other stuff along the way too so just about the hole ute is now built.

We did get it aligned by 2 methods - evidence to the tube were the factory welds were (marks) and sat the hold ass end up of the ground and used the 2 flat plates on both tubes which the leafs sit under to get it right. The boys at Hardie Spicer when building the new shaft recommended when she gets powered up more to run 2 braces to stop any rotating which will be done soon.

did you preheat the cast centre?

Affirmative. I did not do the welding but was around.
