Hi Guys,

I’m thinking of trading in my current BF II XR6 (2007 model, 32000Km, Stock auto, very good condition, log books) for a turbo model with more features/luxuries but I’m having trouble identifying the $$$ I need to budget for. I’m considering the following two options:

1. Go for a BFII XR6 Turbo, 2008 (preferably the models that came with the carbon stripe things on the side skirts/bumpers) with a premium sound/air, reasonable km’s, 6 speed auto.

2. Go for a BF Typhoon, stock kit is ok – whatever it came with, reasonable km’s , 6 speed auto.

What $$$ would I be looking at paying on top of my car for each of the options, is the idea of trading in any good in the first place? I mean do people even get reasonable money back from dealers when trading XR6s or is Private sale / buy the only real option with these cars unless I’m prepared to lose a lot of money?

Thank you in advance.

:Welcome2FordXR6t:

What you need to identify first is how much money you want to spend and then start shopping.

A private sale will always net you more than a trade.

Start looking around on sites such as carsales.com and the like to get a better understanding of what your car may be worth and what you may be looking at in terms of outlay for an upgrade.

Rough idea

Turbo - $7-9k more than what you get for your xr6

Typhoon - $10-15k more.

Don't forget insurance, fuel, tyres and increased service costs on top of that.

As a guide I picked up a Dec 07 BF Mk II XR6T on Monday for $26k, first registered in Feb 08 and with 56k on the clock. Has premium sound, climate, the update bodykit and 18" wheels, and 15mths factory warranty to boot! And NOT an ex-chaser.
