Brake Maintenance

Hi All,

welcome me back to the Blue Oval... sold the Skyline & headed back Home...feels good!!! Anyhow...just serviced brakes (saved myself a fortune) of course Im a licenced mechanic...dont want to void that warranty...:(.. with new RDA rotors & EBC red pads. Ive got a BF2 turbo update with 323mm front rotors...but surprisingly standard rear rotors & calipers...found this out cause the turbo rear pads I was given were much larger than what was found on the car(by the way the receipt says these pads are also the same as RX8 rears...true??). My car is an ex cop...surprisingly well looked after I must ad (hardly any bash marks on the undercarriage)& Im guessing that the force optioned these rear brakes to help with running costs (same as the fact it only had 17' wheels instead of 18,s that the updates came out with). Just curious if anyone else has found this out & im guessing that theres no real need to upgrade to the bigger rear brakes. Just with the changes made to the front (slotted rotors & ebc pads)the brakes have improved noticably & am more than happy with the increased stopping power. Only downside is noise...they do squeal a fair bit...anyone else find this as well? Made sure the backing strip was on the pads but this didnt stop the noise. Oh well at least the cars nice to drive.

Yeah the 322mm fronts are standard on the BF XR6T & XR8. Its the 'High Series' brake package.

As for the rears. All the XR chasers Ive seen have had the 328mm Territory rear disc with the Territory caliper fitted.

My ute (BF 2 Turbo) came with the 303mm rears but upgraded to the Territory disc and caliper (bolts on mind you) and have notice a massive increase in braking ability. Couple it to a full set of braided lines and your almost in business.

... now I just have to fit a stiffer reaction pad in the master cylinder and the brakes will be upto scratch, by my standards.

are you sure the rears are that big?? didnt measure them but are the rears bigger dia than the front...curious

Yeah mate.

If you have the vented rears with the 'standard' caliper ('cause Im not 200% sure about all the 'Brembo' sizes) the rears will be 328mm dia.

I wouldnt go back to the 303mm solids. The car stops so much nicer with the bigger rear.

You can always double check with a disc manufacturing company - not game to mention brands while Im new here.
