Hey all wondering if anyone can shed any light for me?

Was driving around all morning then after one of my stops I started the car and it spluttered and died. Went to start it again and it made horrible beeping noise and on the little screen came up 'system comms error' and flashing red triangle of death, The odometer read -----

Lucky I have a couple of tools in the golvebox including a 10mm spanner so pulled neg terminal off battery for 30secs, hooked it back up and all started fine.... any ideas what happened or anyone else had this happen???
