Hey people,

I've got this bizarre noise when I drive the car first thing in the morning,or when stone cold.

The car sounds completely normal when it starts, when you accelerate slowly to about 10kph, at 10 kph it makes a loud clak type noise followed by knocking for about 2 seconds. The noise only happens when you first drive it and wont do it again once warm.

When it was under warranty, the tech said the clak noise it was normal and had something to do with the emission controls but now the knock noise has developed as well.

Has anyone else experienced this noise or know what it may be. the cars a BF Auto.

Cheers

Firstly, stop driving the car when it's stone cold! Always let her warm up for at the very leasta few minutes.

Can you tell us where the noise is coming from? engine/gearbox/diff? Is it when the gearbox is changing into second?

Mine doesn't make a 'clak' sound, more like a deeper louder fuel pump charging sound. and certainly no knocking, does yours squire?

the manual says its normal to expect a noise when the ABS does a test. either some must be louder than others or there is something wrong with the system. I can only just hear mine.

Well, it's probably not really the ABS charging up, that's just the way I think of it :D

I've always noticed it on mine. I drive with the drivers window cracked, and there's a wall that reflects sound on the driveway where I first hit 10kph. The OPs description is good. I always thought of it as a clak and then a 'pulsing' sound. The pulse is what I imagine it sounds like when the ABS actually kicks in. Though I've never actually hit the anchors hard enough to do that...

First time I heard it I thought WTF, some suspension bit has busted off and is knocking on each wheel revolution...
