Hi Guys

wondering if anyone can shed some light on my gearbox behaviour

I bought our BF mkII xr6 about 5 months ago, and over time have noticed a strange thud/vibration when it shifts from 3rd to 4th.

typically this happens when under load, doesnt have to be massive but if im pushing it a bit you really notice it. can really notice it when on the freeway.

happens even when in manual mode and also when I turn traction control off.

also can anyone recommend an auto rebuilder in sydney that I could possibly go talk to.

has anyone else experienced anything like this.

cheers

Paul

Being a BFmk2 it should still have warranty rigt? Maybe speak to the dealer you bought it off as this would definately be covered under warranty. Is the car modified at all?

Failing a dealer, you could look up Dominello Transmissions, they do some very good work.

I bought it privately but have taken it to my local dealer, they mentioned that they didnt notice it. typical response I guess.

and no, its not modded.

should I push them to go for a drive with me??

just wanted to see if anyone else experiences so I can go back to them with a bit of ammo,

thanks for the info also

If you can re-produce the noise/thud easily, then yes you should push them to go for a drive with you, demonstrate it and then they will have to take a look. Some dealers can be very painful when it comes to warranty. IF you are in Western Sydney I would recommend Peter Warren Smithfield, they have a very good service department.

My 03 ba with 4spd auto had a problem that arose after a longish drive when the trans would get real hot and when trying to over take of taking off it would feel like a loss of power then a big bang and thup that you could feel through the hole chassy of the car. It seems that when it was hot the converter would slip then grab causing the thump, I fitted a trans cooler and it has not done it since and the shifts feel better as well. By the way the car is stock with no mods done except for the F6 CAI.
