08/09/03 11:14 AM08/09/03 11:14 AM #1 hmmm, over the last few weeks I have noticed what seems to be an occasional chime (hard to know for sure as the stereo is always on). Hadn't noticed any warnings on the dash, until about a week ago when I happened to be looking at the speedo and the chime came on and the picture of a lamp (like one a jeanie would live in) flashed 3 times then dissapeared. Probably nothing I thought and proceeded to put it out of my mind, until I noticed more heat coming from the pointy end of the car and a cooking smell, not dissimilar to the smell when the car was new. Anyway, decided to get adventurous and "check the oil" (as they say), and sure enough the rod thingy returned with not a drop of oil, confirmed by a look into the red bit (after taking the cap off) - no oil in sight. To cut a long story short, am getting it topped up at the dealer tomorrow, but it is a bit of a concern that the warning light did not stay on. Surely this is not normal? I could have easily kept driving unaware, which like a child running with scissors, inevitably would have ended in tears. :doh2:
08/09/03 12:09 PM08/09/03 12:09 PM #4 Author I'd put some oil in BEFORE I went to the dealer. well, I've got this far so figure an extra 2 days couldn't hurt
08/09/03 09:04 PM08/09/03 09:04 PM #5 hrm... I can't believe that a new car can loose oil. My pulsar SSS (I know it's a 4 cylinder blah blah blah) is a few km's shy of 100,000 on the clock and the oil level never goes lower. On the dip stick it is always the same (and after 10,000km's since the last service the oil still has some clarrity in it). BTW the oil is 5W. Oh well. Here's hoping my T, when it arrives, won't loose oil like the ol' XF did.
09/09/03 01:34 AM09/09/03 01:34 AM #6 Author it is only at 10 000k's too. anyway is at the service centre now, I'll let you know what they say. It is also in for:overboostcreaky steering (at slow speed)rattling exhaust (again)
09/09/03 01:43 AM09/09/03 01:43 AM #7 Theres a few of us here that have had oil consumption issues with new engines. Mine used up about 2.5 to 3 litres between 5000km and 7500km. You will probably find that it wont use any more. The seem to use a fair bit at this point in their lives (5000km to 10000km) and then dont use any more. I still check mine every week or 2 just to make sure, but it hasnt used any in the last 15000 km, services excepted.Still get your dealer to check it all out. And anyone with a new T, keep an eye on your oil level!
09/09/03 02:20 AM09/09/03 02:20 AM #8 Author And anyone with a new T, keep an eye on your oil level! indeed, particularly as the service intervals are so far apart now...........
09/09/03 02:52 AM09/09/03 02:52 AM #9 I had the same oil problem. After they changed my oil and filter at 3000 it hasn't gone down a bit.
09/09/03 06:40 AM09/09/03 06:40 AM #10 Author it is only at 10 000k's too. anyway is at the service centre now, I'll let you know what they say. It is also in for:overboostcreaky steering (at slow speed)rattling exhaust (again) an update on the above....oil - was down to 3 litres, nothing unusual found, just advised to keep an eye on it until about 15 000 k'soverboost - no problems found, no errors in ECU, couldn't do anythingcreeky steering, did a bit of standard "cleaning up" of the rack etcrattling exhaust - heat shield had half come off
