I have had everything done that he said except the cryo treatment, and I got an extra BF clutch plate added plus some mods to the already 2800 stall I had and it cost me 1650. Do what MONTY said and get it serviced regularly and it'll hold mate. My car has been down the strip about 30 times and the gearbox is as strong as the day I picked it up. "Its all in the tuner"!!!!!!!!!!! Wish I could reply to all individually but seems this is a popular topic! I'm going to call up a few again and start talking basic upgrades that Monty and you others agree on... may not see me as an "easy target" this way either and rather than they tell me what to do I can tell them the direction to take. A couple of grand I was willing to spend and can justify, but 5K???... I'll then have the other half asking why I spent as much on a gearbox as her engagement ring! Got hold of a guy today that quoted around $3500 to rebuild mine... may give it a week and call him again with the above info and see the outcome.Again great work guys... appreciate all your comments! Went to see Baileys, yes they do seem to know thier stuff. Quoted $4500, drive in drive out same day. That's with the full cryo treatment. They try to keep a couple of these on the shelf for exchange basis. They also recommend an external cooler with thermo fan attached to it. I agree with Monty, it's a bit steep. Am in the same boat as Mercury (missus would skin me). My tuner also buys these boxes and fits them hinself. I was expecting around 3 grand. still looking. BTW kw don't kill gearboxes, torque does. I am running a tad over 1000nm atm, gearbox is still ok, but I know it won't live.cheers. I was hoping for around $2500 to strengthen mine. Do us a favour and update me on how you go when speaking to any others and I will do the same. Even PM me if you prefer. I'm keen to go the direction of Monty... hopefully someone in Perth is willing to do the work as we want it though!!!Good luck mate, speak soon Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/60223-4-speed-auto-rebuild-strengthen-in-perth/page/2/#findComment-917334 Share on other sites

Talked in length with Carvells, tells me you can't really do much to these boxes apart from taking care upon assembly. Hums & hars about cryo and kevlar bands. Anyway, the general ball park price for a standard rebuild or exchange appears to be around $2500 to $3000, nothing strengthened or fancy, just in & out. Most places want 2 days. Howed you go? FULL MONTY and FPV_STEVE... I'm almost tempted to take a few days off and drive over east to get my box done where one of you guys did! I printed this thread and used both of your advice in regard to just getting hi energy/kevlar bands, upgraded BF clutch packs done and the cheapest price was $3000 which also included billet servo but no planitaries change. And to include a 2500 stallie its $3700!!! I'm not sure if prices are still so low over east but if so where all getting taken for a ride here!!! And as you guys said, its not hi tech stuff here... just bands and clutches with the tuner then upping lines pressures!!!To any Perth guys that have had their 4spds done at a reasonable price please let me know. I was willing to pay around $2200 give of take for the above minus stallie but $3000... I just dont see it.Hope someone out there can help and has better luck than me! I got burned by a certain little fat greasy mongrel who purposely backed the shift pressure off in my 4spd auto in the hope id go back, so he could say he had the box removed, rebuilt and replaced, take my $4500 and really only increase the shift pressure where it should be. luckily I had the box looked at elsewhere and found the evidence. if its not playing up and is shifting nice and firm, then save your money. id talk to headsex if you insist on a rebuild.
