Dogs On Highways

Does anyone know if there are any rules against dogs been in the back of your ute when you are on a highway? Tied down of coarse.

Or do they have to be in the cab of the Car?

To the best of my knowlegde as long as they are restrained properly in the ute it's legal. I have been up and down perth's freeways many times with my dog in the back of my ute and have never had a drama.

I've been pulled over twice with him in the back and apart from having to polilty tell the Cop that my dog will bite I've never had a drama :fool:

Oh ok, for some reason I thought once you were on the highway they had to be in the cab or like in a cage. She is always tied up and has a harness on.

Pulled up at the lights beside a hilux a while back and saw trusty cattle dog wearing doggles looking back at me. He was suitably restrained so as not to be able to reach the side of the cab, which is good to see. Even in the cab they should be strapped in as well, after all they are another member of your family and you wouldn't want to see him going flying through the windscreen if you have an emergency situation. Dogs that are used for droving are exempt to the law.
