As some may remember, last week I posted my tale of woe, telling you all that my car was delayed by at least 2 months....

Well a BIG rabbit was pulled out of a VERY BIG hat....

WARNING - Boys and girls DONOT attempt this trick at home without having checked your contract AND getting it approved by your lease company

In response to my post in the Forum, two dealers contacted me:

City Ford (Forum Sponsor)

Westpoint Ford Hoppers Crossing

After discussions with the Dealers, both of whom could help out with earlier delivery, I decided to go with Westpoint as their delivery was sooner.

I then contacted my lease company - Lease Plan, and advised them that I had found a car and it was available MUCH sooner. They agreed that I could change my order to Westpoint.

How/Why I hear... MY contract states:

If Lease Plan determines that the supplier is unable to supply the vehicle as described in the Motor

Vehicle Order Form or is unable to supply it within a time acceptable to Lease Plan and to the Lessee ,

Lease Plan may with the agreement and approval of the Lessee change the description of the vehicle

in the Motor Vehicle Order Form as necessary so that a vehicle can be acquired or (as the case may

be) can be acquired within an acceptable time.

So a 2+ month delay was/is unacceptable to Lease Plan, and me thus they cancelled the order and have re ordered with Westpoint Ford.

After shuffling a few papers, sending a few faxes, and making a few calls, I now expect my shiny new XR6 Turbo to arrive in the first week or so of Feb :D: I even have a SIDO, something the original dealer could not give me for at least another month....

Some things to remember it you are considering doing this:

1.Make sure you can legally change the order and under what SPECIFIC circumstances - CHECK your contract.

2.Make sure you have approval of your lease Co. Get it in writing OR as a minimum, keep a log of who you spoke to, when it was (date/time) and EXACTLY what they said you could do in regard to the matter at hand.

3. If the price of the cars vary, you may need to get new finance approval and you may be asked to PAY in CASH the difference, any amount above the original quoted price from the preferred dealer.

4. You may have to pay an admin fee for the change of paperwork and/or use of a "non preferred" dealer.

5.REMEMBER, if you sign a contract for another car,you will HAVE to buy the car even if the lease Co won't change your order. You may end up with 2 cars....

6. CHECK YOUR CONTRACT

Whats the catch/down side I hear you ask.....NOTHING except for a few hours spent making calls etc. to arrange the changes.

BTW

I think Westpoint Ford and Lease Plan have both looked after me superbly, enabling me to get into my new car so quickly :D:

Last of all, I have no relationship with either Westpoint Ford or Lease Plan beyond a contract of purchase and finance respectively. This post relates solely to my personal circumstances, experiences, and my opinions and is not intended as advice to ANYONE.

Good work Dave. Where there's a will, there's a way! I'm on a Notated Lease too, so it's good to have this option. Ordered mine mid Dec, and have been told March...... which is obviously longer than the 2 months you leveraged off. I'll be checking the contract today! <_<
