For about a week now there has been a very annoying and worrying clunking noise coming from the back of my car. The noise would happen when changing gears, putting my foot on the accelerator and taking my foot off the accelerator. It wasn't happening every time I did these things, but most of the time to varying degrees of severity.

So today on my RDO I took my car in to the dealer for them to have a look at. The guy from the service department came for a ride in my car. It went clunk as soon as I started reversing out of the park and they guy said something like "oh god, that's not good". I took the guy for a drive down the road and back, and it went clunk several more times.

He took the car in to have a look at while I waited in the customer lounge. At this stage I was thinking it was going to be something major like the diff needing replacement. About 1/2 hour later he walked in and to my relief said "it's all fixed". :)

It turned out that a bolt had come loose from the diff, so it was moving around a bit. Now that I've gotten rid of that annoying clunking noise, I think it's time to find some more Late model camira boys!

I'm starting to get a bit suspicious with all these clunks solved by tightening magic rear suspension bolts. I've had my car at the dealer 3 times and the rear suspension bolts have been tightened on every occasion due to my complaints of clunking when changing gears. Although they finally agreed that a solenoid needs changing, there is no doubt that as these bolts start to loosen, the clunking gets worse. Hpefully this solenoid change will mean no more tightening of bolts every 2K.

Bluey ol mate!

Check the boot out.....may be an empty flagon or king brown rolling around in there......especially if you have got a boot liner. :D

Hey Superoo, Whats this solenoid sh*t they told you about?? sound like they are telling you porkies.

My GT also has the clunking noise, in fact it has come back 3 times and I am getting pissed off.

I got my car on some stand and got a mate to load up the rear suspension with the engine running. It turns out that the clunking noise is in fact the center diff housing mount bolt coming loose.

Also found that it looks like the shank of the bolt is too small for the inside diameter of the mount hole.

I have informed FPV about this fault and suggested they revise the bolt size.

One permanant fix I can think of doing is to shim or sleve the bolt in the hole so it does not flog around as much.

To be honest, I'm a bit sus on it as well. They got a rep from BTR to look at it and he recommended that it be changed. A little searching led me to find that EA falcons had solenoid issues that resulted in rough or harsh gear changes. Sounds similar so I'll let them do it and see how it goes. Only happens on the 2-3 shift.

Hmmm, I had one noticeably clunk while turning a corner and changing gears. There seems to be a very soft 'clunk' when I change gears and put the foot on the gas, thought it was the lsd or something. I'll get them to check at 3000, still only had the loud clunk once though.

Is you T a manual or auto BlueXR6Turbo? My manual has had this clunk since new, now 7000K old. I've taken it back and they have dismissed the noise as within their driveline tolerances. It's becoming a very sore point with me.

My XR6T is a manual. I've clocked up just over 12000 km and this clunking only appeared about a week before I got it fixed. I was going to wait until the 15000 km service, but it was getting too annoying as it was extremely noticeable.

Any of you that are experiencing this problem, I would recommend getting it looked at because it took them less than 1/2 hour to fix on my car. I hadn't even booked my car in, just went in and asked for someone to have a look. The dealer gets 5 stars for service this time round!
