Thanks lil grey.

Do you know if this is the same mod as the 'how to' that Quadie has posted up as it looks like I'll give it a shot first if it is?

I re-did all my earths today and it made no difference, even did the earth near the factory amp in the boot as my battery is on that side and I thought maybe, just maybe that the earth was bodgy and letting in noise but after sanding it back still no good.

lil grey bf,

Your problem is that the speaker level inputs for your amp expect that the negative side on the speaker level outputs from the head unit is at ground potential. It isn't when the unit on or the key is on both speaker level wires get raised to about 6V, and are driven symetrically around this to drive the speakers.

This is not a terrible this as I use this characteristic as a switch to turn my amps on, even with the key off.

There are two options, what I have done as an interim fix is to use isolating transformers/ ground loop isolators(same thing), the other is to do the ASL/ preamp RCA output mod, which DOES have the -ve side tied to earth potential.

bjc,

I would re-instate the earth strap and simply run big cables from the original battery terminals to the battery in the boot only, no other earthing or anything. You might have already tried this.

Cheers,

Putrid.

bjc, I dont know if its the exact same mod, but I will say that the sound now is much much fuller than the sound coming from the speaker out into the amp. I dont know that Id be keen to pull the icc apart, but yeah, if you want to attempt it I'd be keen to see the results, the big bonus (to me, which may not be to others) is that they have also given me a remote out to power up the amp as well as a separate subwoofer out line and they tell me that I can do away with the factory amp etc altogether.

Putrid fruit seems to sound like he knows whats going on and they seem to be fairly easy fixes if they work in your case so I'd give them a go first if I were you, (I already tried what he suggested a few days ago). In anycase, goodluck with whatever you try.

What was the cost of the mod? Did you just take yours in and they swapped it over with on already modified? Sounds like a go though if they have front, rear and subwoofer rca's outputs plus the power on cable.

Quadies mod only has the rca's for front and rear, I'm ok with soldering but not a guru and plus I'm getting tired of it now so may go the ASL way!

I'm gonna email them for more info as the website is pretty limited, see link- http://www.asllogistics.com/product.php?pr...t=21&page=3

Cheers,

Brett

Hey Bjc,

I called them and arranged a day to turn up, they pull your icc out while youre there but theres a charge if they do this. Then it took a little over 2 hours for the actual mod (I sat in the waiting room reading the history of ford, pretty interesting stuff). You can rip your icc out yourself yourself and bring it in which I knew about but I preferred they do all this to make sure it works when they put it all back together.

Sorry for the delay, I havent been home for the last few days.

Good Luck
