240T,

Dont want to upset you or anything like that, but my friend got the carryboy lid with the spoiler and looks pretty ugly. Its only 3 months old and the struts that support it have given way, it also has scratched the paintwork on the tailgate etc and he is not happy at all and wishes he got the Ford one. I am not saying this because I have a Ford lid but mine does look better and neater. If your interested and live locally I could show you my lid. The Ford lid is finished off better. If any questions send me a PM.

Ford top is excellent, once it is aligned correctly.

While on the topic of lids, has anyone found a supplier of an electric lid release device?

It is a pain having to manually release two seperate locks.

ciao

My brother went to pick up his Pursuit yesterday only to discover that the hard cover had been rubbing up against the rear glass??? Don't know whether it was badly fitted or a problem with the cover. I'll keep you posted.

G'day Grant,

I had a problem with my lid at first.

After taking it in for first service and fitment of painted plugs (removal of tonneau lugs) I noticed that the rear rubber seal on top edge of tail gate was visible.

I spoke with service manager who then took me over to panel shop and I was told a number of stories how the lids apparently did tend to warp due to large size and wasn't much that could be done.

I wasn't happy! and not having the time to argue, I requested it be looked at during another service call.

Got home that night and looked at the fitment, and suspected the hinge mounts may have moved.

The 4 bolts mounting the hinge to the lid were loose, and when the lid was open, the lid moved slightly forward on the hinges, meaning that the rear lip would NOT sit properly onto the tail gate top edge. (Hence the exposed rubber seal)

Just a word of warning. Need Two people to make the adjustment.

I found it necessary to disconnect the gas struts where they mount to the lid.

If you don't, there's every chance that when you loosen the lid, the gas struts will force the lid too far forward (into the rear glass window)

Like I said, get a mate to hold the lid whilst you disconnect the gas struts. There's a clip you can prise off with a small flat blade screwdriver which allows the gas strut to be removed.

Leave the tail gate open, and put the lid down.

Now you can crawl in under the lid to loosen the hinges (Don't remove the bolts, just loosen enough to allow lid to be manouvered)

Adjust the location of the lid to sit properly on the top edge of the sides and check the gaps on both sides to ensure alignment.

I used strips of electrical tape to act as indicators of the position of the lid relative to the body to help in making the adjustments.

Go back under and tighten the bolts on the hinges. I did not over tighten as I was not sure of correct torque setting.. If anyone from Ford can advise, please do so.

Now lift the lid, close the tail gate, and lower the lid to check alignment once again.

If the rubber seal on the tail gate is still visible, then the lid needs to be brought back a little more. When happy with location, also check that seal at front edge (by back window, also sits properly on the deck to prevent water ingress there.

Had to adjust a few times to get it right, and now is OK.

Make sure you refit the gas struts properly with the retaing clip. If the clip does not seat properly, the gas strut can come off its ball joint!

Point to note also, once the lid is adjusted, it also affects the physical height of the tongue on the locks. Adjustment of the locking bracket may need to be done also.

The Ford locks are adequate, but they can be a bit tight to close due to the sharp edge of the tongue coming into contact with the sharp edge of the bracket.

Use a file (or grinding wheel) to lightly chamfer the contacting edges of both the tongue and the bracket to make the locking action smoother.

Whereas before I needed to press down hard on the lid to engage the lock, the key now is quite smooth whist retaining a slight compression of the lid to the deck.

Hope this helps, as I found the FORD service guys certainly had no idea.
