Call me stupid, but do these grills have any adverse effects . For example, might the restriction in air flow (and it must restrict air flow to some extent - can't ignore laws of physics) actually reduce engine performance?

The same question was asked by me mate before fitting.I saw a couple of cars that had been done and for cosmetic purposes I think in my opinion its looks quite nice with no effect on cooling or preformance. As I do alot of milege everyday I could not be bothered by anything that was going to effect my T expecially with the cooling systym.I could understand a rise in intercooler temps and combustion tempertures if I was constantly flat out on a race track under boost all the time but that is never going to happen and driving around the city all day I am hardly useing the outright power of the T and getting things hot. Most of the time I am just driving around useing the excellant torque been made available from these motors.

I rather like the look cause its different from other Ts on the road which I am starting to see more often plus the protection value it has for the intercooler as I was starting to loose the nice black paint work on the intercooler from rocks and bugs etc.

Call me stupid ...

G'Day stupid! ;)

So, no serious answers then...

errrmm ... guess not. :D

I can say that in the short time I've had the grill fitted, I've noticed no difference in any aspect of the car's perfomance, etc.

Hey Kenny .Silverhawk means why didnt you use your flash, not flash your ring, flash on camera.Your can flash during the day with good results.

The camera I was using thought it was smart enough to decide whether or not to flash. I couldn't "manually" flash the outside shots and there was no room on the inside shots, sorry.

I spoke to my dealer here in Brisbane the other day about a grill - he gave me the name of a bloke that comes to you and fits a steel intercooler grill (same design as the grill) for $140.00. I saw an example of the grill while I was there - the Dealer himself has one fitted to his XR8, and it looked filth indeed! If anyone from Brisbane, or anywhere else in fact wants his details, let me know and I can post them (If that sort of thing is allowed!)

$140.00? I want my $20.00 change. Oh well, I'm happy with the result, it looks rather cool. After looking at my N/A with this grill in place, others look a little ordinary.

It sounds like the same guy that has done ours...Wouldn't be "Lou Tetley-Jones" by any chance, would it?

I'm with you Ken, I need a digital camera!!!!

Ken, your grill does look very nice indeed with the smaller diamond holes. It's not as clunky looking as ours. The best thing about ours but from a distance, the 'Intercooler grill' resembles the existing grill. and really makes the car. Yours has that FPV feel.....Can't be a bad thing :D

Yep - I think that's the bloke - I only got his first name! He tells me that it's 140 bucks plus GST - so he owes you a big $6.00!!

hey guys

just to comment on ANI's comment about restricted airflow, I weighed it up and I thought that the slight reduction in airflow it causes is justified the first time a rock got stuck in the grill and not in the intercooler...(that happened only a few days later phew!!!) bent fins etc on the cooler would have a greater effect than the grill I'd imagine. Also I did the install b4 the 3000 service and specifically asked the tech who said there should be no problems.

Also I did the grill myself got a sheet of chrome grill mesh from repco $30 bucks and about 90mins to 2 hrs later voula. I'll post some pics soon.

Yeah Ken, I got one of those cameras, made by the 'Know-All Electronics Company'.

But I found a way to fool the smartar$e little bugga. Aim the little crosshair type doohicky in the middle of the view finder at the dark area of your shot that makes the camera think the whole shot is dark and will make it open the little black surrounds around the lens more and/or engage the flashy thing

I'd be interested to see how you fitted it with some pics if possible. I have the mesh but haven't had time to fit it yet and it looks to me I should pull the bumper off and do it on the bench. If there is an easier way, please let me know.

For those interested, I got the mesh from Supercheap Auto and they have it in various colours. The blue is a perfect match for my blueprint T.

I went to Cambelltown today and asked the service guy to show me an example, he showd me a phntom xr8 with the grill fitted, looked pretty dam good and like it was meant to be there, might be a big of a bugger to clean if big bigs get stuck in it though.

High pressure hose would dislodge the remnant bug guts. <_<

... so are you getting one fitted? What colour?

At last, some photos of Ken's intercooler grill where you can actually see the intercooler grill.
