Hi All,

Today’s question in Voteline on page 19 of the Herald Sun is: ‘Should local footy grounds get exemptions from water restrictions’

This is a great opportunity to rally all community football people together and vote YES on 1900 956 434 (poll closes at 7pm)

The impact may not be great, but every opportunity to highlight the poor conditions of grounds and that football needs assistance, must be taken.

It would be great if in tomorrow’s edition of the Herald Sun, that firstly the Yes column is overwhelming and that secondly the total number of votes received is a significant number.

Please note:

1.24% of all urban water usage is used specifically to maintain sports facilities. This amount is minor when comparing to other industries.

(GHD, Strategies for Managing Sports Surfaces in a Drier Climate Report, July 2007)

Ben McManus

It would be appreciated if people could vote!

If they feel that strongly about it why don't they use bore or recycled water?

You can't even drink the water where I live unless it's boiled due to it being fed by the local river and 3 tapped bores... So yeah, I can see how important it is to water a football oval!

im part of the commitee of a baseball club here in western sydney, our ground gets watered along with the AFL field and athletics field once a week every tuesday morning at approx 1:00am. The water used is mainly run off water that is collected into resevoirs and pumped into the watering system. I think about 10% of the water used is mains water.

If these other footy grounds want to water they should only be allowed to do it this way IMO.
