Strike_Lightning Strike_Lightning Legacy Donating Member 198 Member For: 20y 5m 30d Gender: Male Location: Warnbro WA Posted 12/03/08 10:20 AM Posted 12/03/08 10:20 AM hi guys,I have had my xr6t for about 3 years now great car except for this annoying diff problem I am experiancing.a bit of historyafter about 30,000ks I had excessive backlash in the diff and so after much discussion with my local ford dealer it was replaced( or so they told me ) and it seemed ok for about 4000 to 5000ks at which time the backlash returned so I took it back and straight away the new service manager booked it in for a new diff. they had no records of the first diff being replaced. so after waiting several months for them to get a new diff it was booked in and the diff was replaced.all good for a short while. NOW. the car has still only travelled 46,000ks and the bloody backlash is back.the car is out of warranty, but iam hoping the diff is still under warranty(dont like my chances).has anybody in xr6t land experianced this problem in their car?I am actually thinking about selling it, as the other problem that keeps coming back the so called rack creek is back again after been fixed twice by the ford dealer.can these problems be fixed for good or are they just weaknesses of the 2004 version of the xr6tps its a 2004 5spd manual that's has a pretty easy life.cheers guysdg246

Could this be backlash or is that just a 'manual' thing? Like when I take off, and again when I come to a complete stop, sounds like something is clunking around in the boot.

If you want it done right, take it to a diff specialist.Ford will only give you grief.

Also the rack creak! Just got my one back from the dealer and they dropped some additive in (something about the cones binding). Have to let it run for 50 clicks. will let you know if it fixes it. What was the rack creak due to ?
