I am thinking of getting a GPS and was wondering if I ditched my analog clock and got a std filler (the bit above the center air vents), I maybe able to mount a the GPS swivel on there. It would also already have 12VDC right there that was for the clock.

Someone must of done this..... ? Would be a great molding exercise instead of the gauges.

Something like a Garmin 296 with a dash swivel mount? These come with a 12v car adaptor im pretty sure. It normally runs on a 8.4v battery pack I think from memory.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 310. It is mounted on the drivers side above the air vent. The wire is hard wired thru the vent. Cost me $40. Now all I do when I park, is click the garmin off and put it in my wifes hand bag. No cutting into the dash. Clean and simple.

I can take a picture tomorrow if you want?

I've been told recently that QLD cops are pulling people up and handing out $185 fine for GPS' mounted to the window or top of the dash.... not sure if these are just scare tactics or actual factual... I keep mine down infront of the useless tissuebox holder..
