last night I gave it a boot off some lights and as soon as it came on boost in first BANG CRUNCH GRAUNCH. no more forward momentum.

tail shaft turns but tyres dont.

nothing worse than giving Expensive Daewoo drivers something to laugh at on the side of a busy road.

(haha look at that d@#$%^&h in his flash 60k yellow ute getting scull dragged onto a flat bed truck)

why is my car now heading for its 3rd diff

Not a CV? Maybe not if you say you've done it before.

I thought the diffs in utes were strong? Too much drifting maybe

:spoton:

Drifting would put enormous stress on all driveline components. Maybe you should look into Mal Wood's new diff?

1st of all its a ute so it aint a cv and mall woods new irs centre aint gonna fit

I jacked it up and found its the right axle that is snapped.

now here is where it gets interesting.

400ks ago the diff tube broke out of the centre housing ( the full story is in another post )

after it sat at ford for a month the supposidly fitted a complete unit, disc to disc. BULLSH!T they did. I pulled the wheel off to find a rusty centre hub and rusty wheel studs.

they have put my old centre and axles into a new housing, so the right axle that was taking all the flexing of the broken diff housing is now back in my car but it has finally given up the ghost.

gotta love it.

ford new my car was edited and injectors but realised the diff housing was a manufacturing fault, now its an axle they will be able to blame that on too much power AKA no warranty

Im pretty sure Mal is doing diffs for utes aswell. Ford wouldnt have just changed your housing they would have changed the whole unit as it cost them to much time to change out a centre and pinion from the old diff into a new housing. The rusty hub could have been from when your new diff was in storage they normally come in a pine box. Hope you get warranty

The New LSD will fit the ute housing, but back to the broken axle!! Do you get a lot of axle tramp? If you do that is what contributed to the broken axle. I am currently working on an easy fit set of Track Bars that will cure that problem. Mal Wood

yeah the t/c is almost always on

it turns out I have stripped the guts out of the female spline in the diff centre.

the car has zero tramp but it is really low with hard shocks and the road was a little bumpy doh

ford have filed my case for another complete unit so now its up to fpv and dana

if not ill ring you soon mal

not that I am an expert or anything but I bet that played a big part in it going twoing... all 4 times I broke/smashed my rear end it was on and twice I noticed that TC would cut in just before the boom

my theory from experience was that the TC cuts the power (to stop the spin) then flicks off and you have a full XXX amount of torque being thrown at the rear end (somewhat like dumping the clutch at 5000rpm) now if I plan on giving it a big hit I make sure TC is off... and nothing has broken in a while (touch wood)
