Control Modules

I've been lurking around here for a few weeks and reading a number of threads involving some of the more knowledgable guys around here. I've had my Bionic BF XR6T for a couple of weeks now and the mod bug is starting to itch.

Anyway, I have noticed a number of acronyms being dropped and haven't been able to find any other references as to what they are and what they do. For starters:

Unknowns:

  • PCM.
  • BEM.
  • BCM
  • HIM

Are there any others?

Knowns:

  • TCM = Transmission Control Module. Controls the Tranny.
  • RCM = Restraint Control Module. Controls the restraints, airbags etc.

Reading some of Ninka's excellent posts, it seems that in general it's a good idea to keep these modules model specific, meaning BF -> BF, BA -> BA etc. Am I wrong?

So what do their acronyms expand to, what are their functions, and where are they located?

Finally, where's the best place to get a good workshop manual?

PCM - Powertrain Control Module

BCM - Body Control Module

The other two are escaping me at the moment.

HIM = a band

#4

PCM= powertrain control module

BEM= body electrics module

ABS= obvious, but it also controls traction cont, and stability cont

PAM= parking aid module, for reverse sensors

RCM= you already know that one

TCM= see above

ACM= audio control mod

HIM= HVAC(heating ventilation and air con) interegrated module

Thanks for the info XR_Brute, newl. and thanks for the PM f-wolf. Can anyone provide an explanation of the function of the BEM BCM, or are they the same thing? If all of this is in the workshop manual then never mind, I'll look it up. :yikes:
