Because its a BA, ford don’t paint them envy green at the factory anymore (that’s what they told me) so was wondering if it was better to buy a second hand hard lid, strip the paint and then repaint it envy green. Or is it better to buy one from ford then get it painted. The bonus of getting it second hand and doing it that way would be the cheaper price. If anyone has done this before or has one for sale suggestions would be great. I live in Brisbane so would anyone know a good paint shop to go to? Just give the old paint going over with 1200 sandpaper removing the locks etc before and fill in the minor chip with spot filler and you should be right to paint. No a hard job at all. XR6T8080 Member 398 Member For: 18y 7m 6d Gender: Male Posted 26/06/07 11:46 AM Share Posted 26/06/07 11:46 AM you dont need to strip the paint, light sand, prime and paint, bit of spot putty here and there if there are chips as the other guy said.I would get it done professionally unless your extreemly confident at what your doing, its a very large flat surface, and you will see any stuff up in the final finish quite easily (by any stuff up, I mean sanding marks, uneven spray and so on - primer filler/surfacer should fill all of that, but you may still need to give it a couple of days to sink back and fill the small marks and re-coat if needed). Probably only cost you $300 to get it done professionally, if you remove it and take it to them. If you were driving a VH/VS commo or even a XF/XG falcon I'd probably say have a go yourself, but you have a pretty new car there so it would be worth paying to get it done and be completely happy with the job.If you are going to do it yourself and nobodys going to stop you, use 2-pak paint, at least you'll be happy with the finish straight away, acrylics are fine, but you do have to buff them and mess around with clear coats etc. you can clear 2-paks but you dont need to , the shine from the gun is great, and will dry exactly as you see it wet on the panel. If you use 2-pak paint, get yourself a decent mask, and full body overalls - THE MASK IS VERY IMPORTANT, you can get extreemly sick from the fumes from 2-pak and even die if your body reacts badly. Sounds like its cheaper to get a second hand hard lid and do it that way. I like the look of the BA lids they seem to fit better I reckon. I was looking at the BF hard lid with the roll bar but for $3300 unpainted I changed my mind very quickly. Thanks for your advice thought it would be more expensive to get it painted.
