Just after some advice.

I've tried the ford forums without much luck.

My old man has a au11 xr8 which needs a new exhaust system.

He was quoted for a complete original system from ford(2 1/4 inch twin system I think it is) at $1300.

There is another system that's not original(2 1/2 inch single system) for $700.

What are your thoughts on this. Will the single system effect power or are their any other reasons as to not get the cheaper system.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Bob.

Go the aftermarket system and get some extractors as well. This will free up the motor and make it breath better.

There are many choices, but a single 2 1/2 is not suitable if standard it comes with 2 x 2 1/4.

Get the same or slightly bigger like dual x 2 1/2.

Hi TFord6

I posted a similar question on FF.com.au and got great responses. There's all sorts of au xr8s with different exhausts over there and they're all happy with what they've got.

There's even a thread with sound files if you do a search.

There's guys with 220rwkw+ with single 2 1/2 inch systems (which cost as little as $400 and by all accounts, will improve power over stock)) and lots of supporters of twin 2 1/2 inch systems for under $1000. It seems anything you do will add power over standard Ford stuff, due mainly to using straight through mufflers.

Not sure where you are, but Mettam's Mufflers in Perth quoted me $400 for a single 2 1/2 system with straight through muffler.

I'm just going to remove a centre or rear muffler for better sound - Its not worth trying to chase power in an XR8 for me after owning an XR6T!
