Dare I say once upon a time I would consider it sacralige to even allowing the thought enter my head buying a Falcon but with the combination of the BF being a proven respectable vehicle and the awesome incentives of buying a Falcon through the company I work for, the maths do the talking.Probably the biggest thing I would like facts on is feul economy. What would be a realistic figure you could achieve with the ZF Auto highway cruising at 100km/hr? Also, is the recommended fuel from factory 95RON?I know these cars are still relatively new but are there any typical problems that tend to show up?What options would you recommend purchasing from new that is good value for money? At the moment I think the upgraded seat package would be the bomb!Your comments much appreciated, Cheers BTW, I think the emoticons on this forum are very cool Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/34363-im-new-please-help/ Share on other sites
ZAP No boost, no bottle, just my foot on the throttle! Lifetime Members 7,935 Member For: 21y 4m 23d Gender: Male Location: Sydney Posted 21/04/07 12:57 AM Share Posted 21/04/07 12:57 AM Hi and to the community.I would expect the fuel economy on a turbo on the highway to be in the low 10l/100km and going up to 13's in the city. It all depends on how you drive the car. If you are on boost most of the time, it will drink the fuel, but careful use of the throttle will result in frugal fuel figures. Remember that fuel economy is a minor expence difference between the turbo and the NA. 2lt/100km = $400 per year for someone who does 20,000km per yearGetting a demo/low milage car is always a better idea as it will have taken some hit in depreciation, but then it is always rewarding to own a new car.If you plan to keep the car a long time, then I would get the sports steering wheel (must have option) and the luxury pack. If the budget does not streatch to the luxury pack, then make sure you get the premium audio (colour ICC).The BF's seem to have very few "normal" problems as they have mostly been ironed out. 90TTZ Member 4 Member For: 18y 2m 16d Posted 21/04/07 01:42 AM Author Share Posted 21/04/07 01:42 AM Thanks for the info. Yeah I am well acustomed to getting good economy (and power) from a turbo'd engine as my other car is. A mate of mine has an F6 Typhoon MKII and it does go very well. He has yet to do some mods to it before it stands a chance against my play toy :DI plan to keep it around ten years and maybe become my toy after that, do the turn around thing.I will definitely go new as the price I can get a new one for is actually about the price of a 12 month old N/A. wiresquire Member 266 Member For: 20y 7m 11d Posted 21/04/07 02:31 AM Share Posted 21/04/07 02:31 AM How much fuel you use will also depend on how and where you drive it. Lots of short trips->worse fuel economy. Most people get 14-16 in the city. If you are really worried about fuel economy, you really shouldn't get a Falcon - NA or Turbo. You can run 95 RON in the turbo, but most run 98. Economy on 98 is better, and probably pays for itself on the highway. Whether it does in city driving, I'm not convinced - at least for my driving situation which is a lot of short trips.Cheersws Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/34363-im-new-please-help/#findComment-524345 Share on other sites

My overall average is 10.4l/100km on trip computer and this has not been reset for about the last 30000kms since I did a battery change.Have you driven a BF 6 speed auto yet? If I was in your shoes I would look at an XR6 oe the special edition ES they have now that has a lot of fruit for XT price.Good luck Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/34363-im-new-please-help/#findComment-524351 Share on other sites
90TTZ Member 4 Member For: 18y 2m 16d Posted 21/04/07 03:34 AM Author Share Posted 21/04/07 03:34 AM I really find it weird how the turbo can consume more fuel than the N/A on highway speeds (no boost). Is the ECU tuned differently on the turbo as I would have thought with O2 sensor feedback, it would run the same AFR's as the N/A? Is the turbo model geared differently? 90TTZ Member 4 Member For: 18y 2m 16d Posted 21/04/07 08:39 PM Author Share Posted 21/04/07 08:39 PM I was simply asking about fuel consumption figures purely out of interest. I was curious in what sort of figures people are getting. The beauty of a turbo charged engine and EFI is the ability to have great economy and power when you stand on the loud pedal. I don't expect it to get anywhere near the sort of figures as a small car or a diesel but with technology and the ZF six speed I would have expected it to be better than previous models and going by the replies, it does. This is going to be a replacement for the family car and I would like it to be comfy and good on juice yet go when you stand on the gas and the xr6T seems to offer all that. And the price I can buy one is compared against a one year old XR6 N/A, not an XT.
