Hi everyone, as many of you would have I spent my Easter weekend on the good old Murray river and soon realised what joy a boat can bring to a family with kids. After jealously looking over the many shiny new boats cruising past and my mate’s Lewis eclipse I soon decided that once I return I would start to look into buying one of these beautiful machines. I have looked at the Malibu’s, lewis, xfactor, supra and maxis. There is no way I can decide what one to purchase so any advice from you guys would be appreciated this boat will only be used in freshwater and used mainly for towing. Thanks in advance for your responses.

The Murray still has water? :roflmbo:

Towing what?

Many things to consider here and the main one is how often do you get out to the Murray or other waterways? It's all fun and games buying a boat but the novelty wears off. It's not like our cars that are either daily commuters or weekend warriors. There's roads everywhere and our cars be driven on them. But boats have limitations (you may have guessed this already  ) and time restraints prevent us from going anywhere near the water for months.

I'm not trying to persuade you from the joys of boating but have a think before you jump in head first (no pun intended) and buy something that you may possibly only use once a year. It can be an expensive hobby to maintain especially when you price in rego, safety gear and maintenence.

PS: It's always a joy when it's someone elses boat..

Best thing is either use a mates boat or get a 1/4 share and get another 3 mates to buy in with you.

My dad has a $200k yacht which I can use, but due to time and family I only get out on it once every 2 months.

We worked out that due to the light usage between myself, brother and father it costs about $300 per hour to use the boat.

We are looking to sell it and get a cruiser, as the kids are safer and the wives will be happier, so we will use it more.
