Hello

Im wondering if anybody has had this happen? When slowing down to stop the 4sp Auto dosnt let go of a gear and the revs go down below 750rpm and sometimes the engine stalls.

Is there some corrective action I can take??

What allows your engine to idle while in gear is the Torque Convertor, and this sounds like the TC stays locked up.

It is normal for the 4 speed auto to stay in 4th gear as you slow down, but the TC should allow the engine to idle as the car slows.

Something is not right :crazystuff:

Do you have the right oil in the trans?

Has this started recently?

Is your car modified?

Otherwise I think you may have a dodgy Torque Converter, as there is not much you can do to adjust the TC lockup clutch.

Could be a faulty solenoid in the Valve Body as well, as this controls the lock up of the TC.

The box was rebuilt by prestons. The problem has only started reciently. The only mechanical mod is the IC. I think Ill ring preston Tomoz and have a chat with them and see what the next step is. If it is a torque converter how much do they cost? If I put a stally in does that mean that they replace the converter?

Sounds like a good plan, as I have heard they are good :crazystuff:

If you fit a hi-stall conveter, they will either reduild you old one, or fit a brand new one, either way the problem should be fixed.

I have another symptom. My car will be sitting at the lights in drive 0km/h and the idol will drop down to 500rpm then jump up to 1000rpm and bounces aroung a little then soughts itself out. not sure if this is related but also my car seems to be hesitating when I have a little more power than crusing power, about 10% throttle while car is rolling at about 60km/h. any clues where to look first? do you think this problem valve body or torque converter related?

Sounds more like injectors, fuel pump, fuel filter related, maybe even a cat. Anybody got any ideas for me?

hunting at idle could be the throttle position sensor, but not sure if this relates to your tc problem

How much is a throttle position sensor worth for an XR6T auto BA mark I? Is it hard to change?

Ok cool. If the car does something silly like the idle going up and down at rest does the computer log an error code or something? if it does and you run an edit can you get these codes back?
