You can do it on a std intercooler - but a larger replacement one lets the motor do it easier and with less boost. I say spend a few hundred and get the Monza/wogcooler if you don't wanna go real expensive and then get her tuned. I have re-done all the piping, intercooler and intake... If your after decent power on low boost, all the stock restrictive piping should be replaced.
