February 28, 200719 yr #1 Intermittently on about 5 occasions in the last month I have had the situation where I get into the car turn on the ignition and there is no P for Park showing on the dash display and then start normally and go to drive off in D and the D falshes and the it feels as though the auto is in the limp mode with torque converter locked up. Turn everyting off and re-start and all is well again. This appears to happen generally from a cold start and never occurs whilst actually driving. WHen it does happen the spedo is fine so it's not a wheel sensor.Any useful suggestion from those with similar experience or tranny experts. It's a BA with the 4 Speed BTR box.Dingah
February 28, 200719 yr #2 Flashing 'D' is a transmission error. If it is intermittent, then I would check my connections, particularly the ones on the side of the transmission, as this could be a bad connection.
February 28, 200719 yr #3 Author Yup, checked them and all appear ok.Transmission drives fine so I doubt there is an actual fault more like a ddgy sensor somewhere?Dingah
February 28, 200719 yr #4 There are not a lot of sensors in the 4 speed, I think only temp., so more likely faulty wiring.Ford can connect the analyser and tell you what the error code is.
March 1, 200719 yr #5 Author Now have downloaded codes which indicate S5 solenoid (adjustable line pressure) going to open circuit.Connections and solenoid will be checked out and if necessary replaced next week (approx $70 for a replacment).Dingah
March 1, 200719 yr #7 Author Thanks Ninka - the valve body was modded by Tony Dominello at Dural a couple of years ago when tuning first began, so I am hoping that the solenoids remained standard in order to make sourcing a replacement easier.Dingah
March 6, 200719 yr #8 Author SO far so good. Glen a ESP pulled the pan down and thoroughly checked and re-assembled and crimped all loom connections and checked through the resistance of the loom and S5 slenoid and currently all appears good again.Bloody hope so as it's a delibating fault!Dingah
March 6, 200719 yr #10 SO far so good. Glen a ESP pulled the pan down and thoroughly checked and re-assembled and crimped all loom connections and checked through the resistance of the loom and S5 slenoid and currently all appears good again.Bloody hope so as it's a delibating fault!Dingah←Good luck with that.Hopefully by reporting an open circuit, it may just have been a poor connection on the solenoid connectors
